External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
I thought I had escaped this once and for all but seems not lol. All new links created and images have the live site prepend to them. An example of a link is here.
http://www.mylivesite/%5C%22%5C%22http: ... C%22%5C%22
Also words that contain special characters such as ' " come out as, doesn\\\\\\\\'t, here\\\\\'s \\\\\\\"quote\\\\\\" so on... Every edit made to an article adds another slash. I've disabled the email, smf and any non critical bot. Checked livesite and character encoding. Flushed the browser and site cache, created a new article using non-wysiwyg mode. Issues above still remain. Except in non-wysiwyg mode the url shows fine???
Unfortunately, thats all the information I have. Development of the replacement site had been fine prior to yesterday and as far as I'm aware nothing has change. We upgraded to Joomla 1.0.10 the day after it was released. Any ideas?
PHP Version: 4.4.2
Web Server: Zeus/4.3
WebServer to PHP interface: cgi

Well to make things even more interesting. If I view source the url is fine and displayed correctly. However, if I hover over the link or click on it, it shows the above???

Nah, had Joomla running on Zeus for just over 2 years. The problem cropped up in 1.0.8 then disappeared in 1.0.9. As of yesterday its back. Although I'm noticing between here and Joomlapolis quiet a number are experiencing the same problem.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
I think with this issue that wouldn't be the case. Nothings really changed since the upgrade to 1.0.10. I've tagged one post that maybe related to us, \" in titles. The url things got me stumped though.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
I found this today with a new site install of 1.0.10.
It's a right pain in the arse. Anyone have ideas of how to fix it?

For us we just went back to 1.0.9. Not a live site but least our work can continue.

cbauthor bot, smfs own forum bot and jce editor. Latest releases. I've tried disabling 3rd party bots and the issue remained. Made another copy of the site we're developing and I've upgraded it to 1.0.10. Apart from the slash stripping problem the links remain as they should.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
I found it on a brand new install, very simple, only half a dozen content items. The only 3pd extension is JoomlaXplorer. Because it's so basic and simple, I just removed the couple of external links for now, but that's not a permanent solution, obviously.
I have yet to check my big site under development. I upgraded that from .8 to .10 last week.

It didn't affect our existing links which was a good thing. Seems to happen when you either edit a content item or create a new item.

Those input fields being used for links are of type 'textarea', aren't they?

My links are part of content articles, so yes, they're in a textarea.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
Hm.
I already mentioned strange behaviour with plain textareas and special characters (i.e. menu title). New entry might be correct but, editing them most often caused transformation of those characters. They where unreadable afterwards (see posting from last_exile above).
For me all works fine when using one of those editors.
In one test setup I even changed Virtuemart in relation to short description to double check it. Normally this field is plain textarea. Using an editor all is fine. Not using it characters are transformed to UTF-8. When entering HTML entities for myself all is fine, too. No dependancy on platform, PHP/mySQL/Apache visible.

We have a report about this from a french user on joomla.fr too, using JCE.
He's gonna test with Tiny.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
Can someone please confirm if this is a bug or not?
Or what this could be related to?
I do not have this problem on my own site though..

Issue cropped up again for us. Works for a few days and then all of a sudden it happens. Nothings being changed or edited. Really starting to get on my nerves now.

Resolved: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
After some investigation I found the cause of the problem. I checked the content in the database and the links remained intact. So I disabled the joomla cache and all the mambots we had running. I activated one, edited an article and saved. Cleared the browser cache too. Soon as I did that the links saved normally. Went through all the mambots until I hit the smf header mambot. Bang, the links showed again.
I'll file a bug report to smf once I've troubleshooted the bot more.

Due to unclear state of fixes in this relation:
Cache is off in between at all of my systems, at some systems it has never been enabled. It can not be the onliest causing issue.

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
well I've done this on 3 sites and disabling the smf header bot resolved the problem. So I'm happy with that. The fix was pretty clear. Disable all the bots and then reenable them one by one. Until you get to the trouble maker.

I don't know... as I said there was no 3pd stuff on my install except Joomla Xplorer. Certainly not SMF. (I've since installed OpenSEF, but the problem was there before I did that.)
Cache is also off.

Like phoebe said:
No extensions installed makes no difference. SMF is not installed at any system.
I'm not sure but, changing encoding from 8859-15 to 8859-1 looks like a working solution for me. I need to perform more tests.
Drawback:
What happens with Euro sign?
This character is not included in 8859-1 but 8859-15.
UTF-8 is no real solution because there are operating systems like OS/2 which have problems with UTF-8. OS/2 is still a business case for me, though ...

Hi.
I unpublished the SMF_header_include mambot and the problem went away. It must have something to do with it.
Thanks,
Darren

Re: External links have live site prepend in Joomla 1.0.10
Well, I've STILL got this as a problem, and now on a new site with 1.0.11.
I do not use SMF, so it isn't necessarily to do with that. But right now I have two Joomla sites on which it is apparently impossible to link anywhere outside the site.
EDIT: Sorry, I sound really grumpy above. But this is extremely frustrating -- this site is going live in two weeks, being advertised to 40,000 interested users and I can't create external links!
