What do you think about when looking at, searching for or deciding on a name for a business?
I'm in the process of coming up with a new business name/web site url and researching what actually works in a name.
In the end from what I can see there are a number of questions that must be addressed and answered...
Do I wish to have a name that defines my product/service category?
Will people apply it to my competition as well as my offering and therefore won't differentiate me from them?
Just because I think the name describes what is being delivered doesn't mean that others will and how do I over come this?
Will my name confuse people if is isn't clear what is says?
Sould my name be abstract, a blank slate upon which to create an image?
Should my name be informative, so customers know immediately what my business is?
Is a coined name (names that come from made-up words) more memorable than names that use real words?
Is a coined name eminently forgettable.
Great ! Try with "Open Source"yerg wrote: Check out this link and put your desired name in the appropriate place and give this a go.
That a pretty good suggestion (and nice logo). I like it!tonezone wrote: I know I have suggested this already but was just playing around a bit more after a hard day at work.
peakcms.com is available.
Cheers
Of those, only Abadox is open, and it's open across all TLDs.Osiris wrote: "Samba" is a great name. But under the register from Samba.org. My favorites : "Focus" , "Matrix", "Avalon", "Fusion", "Anka", JanJan", "Forex", "Paqua", "Major", "Mixo" "Abadox", "Suwia", "Zion", "Zepka", "Sycon", Pia", Pupa", .....
Good lucks.
Ah, yes, but try Zozco ...Elpie wrote: zosco
(snip ...)
This domain is available in everything except .com. .com is registered in China, but the site has, for me at least, been unresponsive. I do know that zosco is the acronym for a Chinese shipping company, but cannot find anything that would indicate there could be any issues with us using it.
Peak is used widely and the .com, .net & .org have all well and truly gone.TheSaint wrote: Peak is growing on me also, btw nice logo mockup there!![]()
Is it in general use, or trademarked anywhere? Are the .com, .net and .org domains available?grant wrote: What about calling it Cherry?? Everyone can spell cherry, cherrycms.com is available? And you can do lots a great things designwise with cherry? and they taste great with champagne!!

What about the name OSMose ?
It is used in all kind of languages.
OSM = Open Source Matters
Osmose is what is happening now with us, users of Mambo, isn't it?
I kinda like the "Tango" one - it'd make for a great slogan too:motion-ex wrote: The tango suggestion if available under all circumstances: trademarks and domain name is a great one... People might alos come with some kind of logo suggestions...
