help with smf error

hello,

i tried installing the smf forum and i received this error:

ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.

can someone help me out? i'm hosting using wamp.

SMF forum is not a Joomla component but a standalone PHP application.
You'll need to unpack the .zip file to your WAMP environment.

it is not a Joomla! component, so you cannot install it via the Joomla! component installer.

you will need to install it to your WAMP server directly.

so will i be able to display it on my webpage?
i'm using the vortex template.
i read somewhere that you need a wrapper  ???

1. Install SMF (like in a folder called "forum")
2. Create menu link (wrapper).

you will need to create a folder and install SMF in that folder on your site. for assisance with this, you might want to check out SMF's support board.

Once (READ: 'AFTER') you have SMF up and running as you like it, note the URL of the front of the SMF install, and then create a new menu item of type wrapper, and link it to this URL.
