New classified ads and Directory
Website URL (entered in the body of the post not the thread title please):
Hi to all, I had this idea long time ago and here is It.
Advertising, classified ads and directory website for South Africa.
Website URL: http://www.funtree.co.za
Developed on Joomla! 1.0.12
Template: td_blerta
Additional Extensions (Components, Modules, Plug ins):
Auction fun
OR and Cms Realty
Jobline
sobi2
Market place
Flexadvert
Comunity Boulder
primeziler
google adsense
module HTML
Custom Development:The template has seen a lot of modification but not the css because I liked the colours.
almost every every component has been modified to match the template expert ( market place) is still not responding, I think it is server problem because it working on my localhost.
Other Features:The header(flash section) is not original from the template
Three (at least) specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on (design, code, graphics, etc.):
- Please let me know how the page load on other browsers (only tested on IE)
-The functionality of all components and modules(login, add an ad, send message and forum topic.... Please if possible.
-What do you think about the design and layout?
Additional Comments:
-Would you be satisfied if I have designed that site for you? Tell me why Please!

Re: New classified ads and Directory
The rotating images in the header are a nice touch. The text is very difficult to read in some of the images. I think it's because they're too busy...esp. the ones with trees. Try different combinations of text colors (slightly outlined, drop shadows, etc) and images to see which ones work together. As pretty as the images are, you may have to drop some of them.
Watch out for the main body of your page. In IE it slightly covers the top menu, and in Fire Fox the top menu is covered completely. Making pages look good in both browsers can be a major pain in the butt, so good luck with that. The width is also a bit too large in both browsers.
It's kind of strange to have two search boxes at the top. I'd only keep the Google search since that is a source of possible revenue. Google doesn't do a good job of making their logo look presentable unless it's on a white background (as you can see by the jagged white outline around the text). I think Google will let you get rid of it through your account or in the code. You may also want to get rid of the search button, since you already have the word 'search' in the input box...or vise versa, keep the button and take the text out of the input box.
Well I hope that helped you out a bit. Aside from those few things, the site looks good.

I will just select few pictures that will correspond to the colours
Also about the the search boxes, they are all google's but I think I will have to remove one and put a menu link.
The google picture has been disturbing me since but as you said I will post a complain and here from them.
I am also working on browser issue and will report here when done so You can check again.
I really appreciate your assistance

Re: New classified ads and Directory
Hi, just to let you know..
I use Firefox viewing yoursite..
1. Banner and top navigation is overlapped - Banner covers the top nav
2. Login module overlap top nav as well..
That's all..
Err... I don't think green active link and orange hoover link works with your dominan grey layout..
But if you like it, so be it..
Good Job!

I am working on the firefox issue and it is a real Paine. But I think I have got the solution(adding a module before the top navigator)and it is really not easy but sure will solve it.
I will also appreciate if you could suggest any colour combination.

The content is shifted right by about 10px in Firefox, Safari, and looks slightly shifted in Opera (left side, the right side looks okay)

Re: New classified ads and Directory
I would simply use 2 or 3 colour.. only
For refferences you might take a look at this site - http://www.simplygraphix.com/color_combinations1.html
or simply type on search engine 'about color usage for designer'
Hope that helps..

That is the best viewer I could come out with from the search.

Welldone..
That looks so much better in my eyes..
keep tweaking the color...
you'll get there..
the key is "keep it simple"
then the money keeps coming to you..

Very nice site. I like the layout and colour scheme but my only reservation is the text on the header slideshow. hard to see the red on blue images so you may want to harmonize the text and images as has been suggested by some above.
By the way what component/plugin did you use to be able search on Postal code ( state code) in your classified Ad?

Thank for the the comments.
I have removed some pictures from the header.
As for the post code search I am still working on the market place search option.
I modified the SobI2 entry and search to have post code in the search module.

Re: New classified ads and Directory
This directory is just a modified version of DOCman of Phoca. They all look almost the same just looks like someone changed the attributes and name of the column names. I have not seen a really good directory script for Joomla at all that has a professional feel to it. If someone was to code a good one they could probably clean house. I have one on my wordpress site that is pretty awsome you can check it out here at WEB DESIGN | WEB DEVELOPMENT | JOOMLA WEB DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT PAGES http://www.dallasprowebdesigners.com A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY | WEBSITE DESIGN DALLAS
Literal URLs only. See forum rules for details.

Re: New classified ads and Directory
Sorry for late reply But On that site I late Chaged it to Ads manager.
This script has it all but only one problem: Not possible to browse if you are not log when you set ads manage to log in front page. I Have try on one new update but not the latest but still the same.
The systeme seems to work sometime on my site cause I have done lot of modication on the script.
I am just too busy now, I will be back on that site soon and will give more clarification on what to and what to edit.

Re: New classified ads and Directory
Think I'm probably covering things other people have commented on but:
- Google logo needs to be on a white background otherwise it just doesn't work properly.
- It's difficult to read the red and grey text on the photo at the top of the page. You need to use something that has higher contrast, maybe even white.
- Not sure about the orange googe ad skyscraper ad, it's fine but maybe just a bit too bright. Tone it down about and it wouldn't dominate the page so much.

I will have to find some time to check on those; about the header textures it is a but difficult as picture change as page change and they are not identicals. I will maybe keep one picture and set the coulours to match it.

After all this time, your site still needs some good improvements. It looks so confusing. The template and color should be changed.
