[SOLVED] - Can't create new users - fresh install

I installed Beta 2 just now and logged into the administration and cannot create new users. I get a blue info bar stating: Cannot save the user information, and then a blank red error bar.

Any more information we can use to try and replicate the error ?

I don't know if this helps but I cannot create a 1.5 account the following appears:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/joomla/public_html/demo/demo15/components/com_registration/registration.php on line 413

Registration Complete!

After this I get an email. when I reply the message says the password is incorrect. If I log in, then i can - 1 time only. After that then I re-register and go through the loop again.

Tested this on winxp and got a message: Cannot substantiate email, this was correct because io had to set up the email  in admin configuration, than everything went fine.

Same symptom here:

If error in creating user, then error message bar (red horizontal bar at top of screen) is only partially visible, with no idea of what was actually the bad parameter.


Firefow 1.5 browser on WinXP local install on easyPHP 1.8 (Apache 1.3.33/PHP 4.3.10).

Sme problem here as described by Joombla.
Shared hosting account running on php 5.2.1 and apache 2.2.4
Firefox 2.0

Would posting a screenshot help?

I am having the same issue. I thought it was something I did wrong in the install, so I re-installed 3 times. It still doesn't work. I can't add from the admin side or register when not logged in.

Here is what I am seeing after I created the user with the same information such as existing email address or the same email address. (RB-nightly)

Another "cannot save user information will appear by merely putting a wrong information like myemail.mail.com instead of mymail@mail.com.

However if everything is correct this is what I got.

I hadn't tried using another email, but it worked. That was an easy "fix". Just don't register 2 users with the same email.

It is quite correct for Joomla that if an email address is used for the second time, to refuse that user info. In your case however, it seems that arbitrarily an email address with an extra dot in the first part of the name is refused. Email addresses do exist, like mine, with dots in the first part of the email address and should be accepted. There are many providers that allow to construct an email address like that. So, it is the validation of the email address that needs looking at.

Q&T Note; before everyone jumps in with similar issues, I'd like to ask to stay on topic!

Could Joombla please elaborate on his issue? Can you provide a step-by-step how you try to create this user, also the details you are using for this user?

As for other issues, make sure they are exactly the same, if in doubt, please create a new topic/report.


By the way, unable to confirm this issue in build 7404.

I agree to stay with the issue which is sometimes difficult because one easily reacts on something else.
Right, the issue:
I have downed build 7404 and tried to create a user from the front-end. I used an existing email address on purpose, knowing that this should not be accepted; which it did not. So far so good.
The error message, however, is not clear what is wrong. It tells me "Registration error" in nice blue letters.
What is the error?
Could it be the username?
Could it be something with my pw?
No, I know it is my emailaddress.
Ok, plse tell me so  ;). Otherwise I could be staring for ages at the Joomla user registration screen and I can imagine nicer things to look at or do more useful work.

I have the same issue as Joombla

what I did:
I clicked on new, in the User manager
I filled out the data, but didn't select a language, editor, help site, or time zone
I set the user to be Super Administrator
I used an e-mail address which was the same as the Administrator user has
I clicked save and the same page is loaded with the error bars above it

I got the same result as Joombla and the image that ultimoAdios posted

what we see is that some elements of the error message are not finished and the text of the error message is not generated

Duplication attempts:
now with another e-mail address (so not the same as the existing Administrator user)
The user is saved, but it gives me the "Could not instantiate mail function." error

When I try to add a user with the same e-mail address as the user that got saved, I again get the issue of this post

When I use the same Username, a different Name and a different e-mail address I have the same result

Just a little remark or question, really:
I also had this message:  "Could not instantiate mail function."  and it turned out that I had forgotten to put the correct smtp info in the configuration part of admin end. So, therefore the email function did not know how to send the email. When corrected, that message was gone.

Ok, Daniel.
Do a little test to rule out the email business.

Change the email settings in admin/server/configuration as email type: smtp
Do not set any passwords or whatever and choose:  "smtp.xs4all.nl" as your smtp host.

Then see what happens. If that also goes wrong, your problem is not the email configuration but something else of which I do not know the answer as yet.

This one seems solved but another error appears when saving a new user account. Look at the attach.
