Looking for Guild Modules & other add-ons for WoW

Post by GJSchaller » Mon Nov 07, 2005 10:10 pm

I'm thinking of making a site in Joomla for my [SPAM] guild.  While I have the Gallery & Forums figured out, I realized there may be some stuff out there that would be very beneficial to a WoW guild, that I did not know about - so I'm asking here.  :)

Anyone know of any good MMO / WoW components for Joomla, that they would be willing to share?  (Guild Bank, Loot Points systems, etc.)

Check out my website. www.omnia-hq.com.

I use phpbb forums, bridged to joomla login. I find this to be faster than the native joomla forums. It also has lots of useful mods available, although integration isn't always straighforward due to the database changes to integrate into joomla. Phpbb is modded to provide a mouse-over feature in the forums to give item stats.

Eqdkp is used for DKP tracking, and is integrated into phpBB. You need the WoW mod and the raid organiser mod is recommended (we are changing over to eqDKP raid organiser).

Guild Roster and individuals' stats are provided by WoW Roster http://wowprofilers.com/. This can be integrated into phpBB although it's not neccessary. Guild Roster also has a guild-bank mod. It's a geat tool if your members upload their profiles because you can check skills, professions, reputation, quests, compare items etc.

Joomla Team Speak component provides a real-time update on who is in Team Speak chat.

I use wrappers for all these stand-alone scripts.

Hi parthurz.
I'm building too a WoW related site and after a loong net-journey just found Joomla.
Your site is really nice and looks really similar to my project http://warcraftguildes.no-ip.org/roster-test/
but so far I didn't used any cms.
I read in this forum various way to integrate/bridge phpbb to joomla: what system did you used to do it ?
I'm really interested to know your solutions, please could you share them ?

Hey, I just posted my ThottSearch Module http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,25080.0.html
take a look at my guild site: http://www.craversdark.com
I'd be happy to swap notes with you if you're interested.  I made a few Mambots for linking items, though I haven't figured out how to make them easy to share.

Seems that WoW folks are looking into Joomla! rather than the... more traditionally used (read: crappy) systems out there.  Good stuff!

I run http://www.laggaming.com which hosts our WoW guild http://www.lividandgifted.com within Joomla!

Get Community Builder (a component, not a module) and I would also recommend a forms tool (we use Facile Forms and have for some time).  Beyond that, things like an Events Calendar (com_Events) and of course forums (we use Simpleboard/Joomlaboard but have had issues with security).

Tweaking Joomla! to be a community building/management tool takes a bit of time and patience.  If you are looking for a quick fix I recommend using one of the large forum packages (SMF, vB or phpBB) to manage the community portion and Joomla! to manage the content portion, much like they have done with this site.  Things such as usergroups prove invaluable and it's something that we miss sorely for permissions purposes... ;)

Best of luck getting your site... and your guild... running! :)

I See that it's been awhile since someone has posted in here, but let me be the reviver.  I have recently been caught off guard by the WOW addiction.  And have since spent almost every waking hour away from work feeding the addiction.  Well in doing so i've come across some cool gamers.  Knowing a bit of web building techniques I decided to start creating WOW communities on the internet.  I don't know much about templating so lately i've been using someone elses as a base, and adding banners or graphics where i could.  But what i'm really interested in is the ability to include WOWRoster and DKP into Joomla as a component or module.  Has anyone ventured into this idea?  I've been doing some research and all I find is a wrapped version that generally doesn't fit into the "main_body" of the site anyways without having to scroll over to see the rest of the content.

Legion of Elune<- unfortunately it's a Mambo.:-P
The Lordz of War<- Joomla all the way! Woot!

These are the two sites i'm currently working on.  So anyways I was posting cause I too am very interested in seeing a few WOW modules and components added to the great joomla community.  If there is anyone that I could be of help to come up with such a thing, please let no one hesitate to ask.
Any information or help on incorporating any additional WOW tools would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks for your support. /cheer

added: I didn't notice till after I had made this post, but have you all seen the amount of attention this thread gets by way of topic views?  Obviously something many are interested in.

Bah.  I've cycled thru guilds, mergers, and such so many times now, I'm an expert at deploying a Joomla / SMF / Gallery2 solution in under 30 minutes...  :P

We finally settled on a site that is meant for multiple guilds, so that members can move around, hang out, etc. and not be limited by guild.

http://www.altaholicsanonymous.com/

I hope to bundle and make the Joomla and SMF template available for download soon, there are still some minor tweaks left to play with.

The only thing lacking at this point is a way to integrate EQDKP into Joomla - has anyone found a way to do this?  (Or into SMF - I much prefer it to phpBB).

I have been all over the place and am trying to find a way to get the mouseover for itemstats to work in the main body of Joomla.  I know it will work in the forums, but does anyone know how to get it done in Joomla?

I am in the middle of rolling out our guild and our raiding alliance websites.  They are http://www.wowmerge.com and http://www.forgottencrusaders.com

Thanks in advance

Integration of tools would be nice, but works also pretty well without. just wrap the tools.
i used communitybuilder to bridge phpbb and joomla. phpraid has build-in bridge to phpbb (that's why i use phpbb).

for eqdkp only a few need access to update dkp. rest only has to see. same applies to guildroster.

Not a response to the integration, but another WoW site that uses Joomla, and is integrated with phpBB, phpRaid, WoWRoster, and more.

(oh and a bump for a good topic)

I'm running Joomla, phpbb,  raidplanner, Roster and eqdkp
Only RaidPlanner is integrated via phpbb, the rest is via a wrapper and I can do pretty much without integration since only a few people need to have access to it.
I think it works pretty well for now.

http://www.guardiansofdestiny.net

A few mods would be nice though... Like top 10 dkp, raids from raid planner, loot from raids... but oh well.. :)

If you guys run across any native components or modules, will you send feedback on my Joomla for Gamers site?

I found a Thottbot Module. I had it available in the old site, but I just upgraded to Joomla and haven't had a chance to put it back online.

Sounds good. Please PM me if you get this running.

Also, I have the Thottbot module available in the downloads of GameNuke.org. I also ran across a couple of WoW themes. They are also available.

Good Luck!

I've checked out the link to the sites here and there are some really cool sites going for guild here. My question is this:

Has anyone sucecessfully integrated he "Users" in joomla, forum, WoWRoster and EQDKP?

I would love to setup a site for my guild in that there is only 1 universal login for all the "modules".

Any information would be appreciated.
TIA

It's done by utilizing the phpbb_itemstats plug-in with a few hacks to the content and template files. When writing content, you type [item]itemgoeshere[/item] and it will display with the mouseover.

I found the hack at eqdkp forums..
http://forums.eqdkp.com/index.php?showt ... 7&hl=mambo

It was written for Mambo, but works fine with Joomla. The only gotcha is that the search strings he says to look for don't match exactly what's in Joomla (just the whitespace). If you have any questions or anything let me know.

After hesitating between phpRaider and eqDKP for a guild management tool, due to the array of available plugins.
And after hesitating between Drupal and Joomla for a CMS.

I have chosen to use Joomla + eqDKP + SMF.

I know that Joomla + SMF has been done extensively.  I have used Mambo in the past and I was pleased with the capabilities of Community Builder.

(oh yeah, I guess Gallery2 integrates well with Joomla? I am just assuming since I didn't do the research and did it in the past with Mambo)

Now to revive this thread, has anyone been able to successfully integrate the User Modules of Jooma/SMF with eqDKP?

Thanks!

I have some good experience in PHP/MySQL, I might be able to cook something up but as always, look for the best first, please share any results you might have in the Joomla/EQDKP bridge topic.

I'm currently in the process of developing two [SPAM] guild Joomla extensions.

first one is called MyArmory and is a guild management component that pulls the guild roster from the Warcraft Armory.
second is called MyRealm and it is a Joomla Addon that displays the current status and population of your [SPAM] realm.

both of these addons are being developed for Joomla 1.5 only, but if they need arises I will port them back to the previous version of Joomla.

if you are interested in how to obtain these Warcraft Joomla extentions feel free to email me at

dan@wowdiem.com

cheers

Dan,

I just released my WoW Server Status module on GameNuke.org.

also on the extension's database: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

That should save you some time. I can't wait to see your armoury module!

Thanks!

Hi Everyone!

based on Dan Alloways MyArmory I developed a new component for joomla ver 1.5 called ArmoryRoster. You can configure it to retrieve your guild's info directly through the armory. It saves a cache for every guild that you retrieved, and you can configure the update interval.

Currently there are 2 options(tasks): view and keys. view shows general infos about your guild, whereas keys (and this comes in handy) shows the members with the keys for heroic mode of the several instances.

It's still in beta, but should work fine!

please give it a try...

http://www.erbenvonsargeras.de/armoryroster

You can also have a look at it under

http://www.erbenvonsargeras.de/relaunch (OK, it's german, but you get the pic) (click "Mitglieder" for view and "Heroische Schlüssel" for keys)

Have fun!

PS: Please, any feedback is very welcome!
