May I remove "powered by Joomla, Copyright Open Source Matters Inc."

Post by allegra » Thu May 31, 2007 9:29 pm

Hello

I wonder if I am allowed to take off

I've read we can for the footer but I could not find anything for this metatag generator. I don;t want to take off the copyright off the code, just this line. Thank you for your help

Hmmm,
Very good question - I've wondered about that as well.
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."

Yes, you can remove (mark out) the meta information with no problem. This is not against the GPL license.

in the file joomla.php, I see the top of the file: start = $this->getmicrotime();
$this->prefix = $prefix;
}

/**
* @return string A format message of the elapsed time
*/
function mark( $label ) {
return sprintf ( "\n$this->prefix %.3f $label", $this->getmicrotime() - $this->start );
}

Am I at the right place? If yes, how do I alter that file without...again...putting the whole site down... :(

Thanks again.

Go to your template and look for footer.php.

I can't help laughing...you are so funny ...OK, it's not footer, this I am sure, I checked the main of the template , not there either OR it would be "packages Joomla" , now I tried frontend.php (include) this one has it very clearly sooooo I took off :

$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'Generator', $_VERSION->PRODUCT . ' - ' . $_VERSION->COPYRIGHT);

an d..my site went down...I reloaded the original and now I am scratching my head...

Here the code for the head in frontend.php:

* Assembles head tags
*/
function mosShowHead() {
global $database, $option, $my, $mainframe, $_VERSION, $task, $id;
global $mosConfig_MetaDesc, $mosConfig_MetaKeys, $mosConfig_live_site, $mosConfig_sef, $mosConfig_absolute_path, $mosConfig_sitename, $mosConfig_favicon;

$mainframe->appendMetaTag( 'description', $mosConfig_MetaDesc );
$mainframe->appendMetaTag( 'keywords', $mosConfig_MetaKeys );
$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'Generator', $_VERSION->PRODUCT . ' - ' . $_VERSION->COPYRIGHT);
$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'robots', 'index, follow' );

Again, if I take off the tag generator to the end ";" , I loose the site.

Anysuggestion?

Thank to all of you.

Me again.

I just checked the index of the template as one of you suggested, I see the but I cannor take that off of course because then I loose all the tags and stuffs.

So I really think that it is in includes/frontend.php , but I must do something wrong when I take off the tag (cjeck my previous post) ...please someone can tell me how to take off that tag without killing my site?

Thanks a lot.

don't delete it, just comment it out ie:

//$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'Generator', $_VERSION->PRODUCT . ' - ' . $_VERSION->COPYRIGHT);

Where does the frontend.php file reside in the latest Joomla1.5 version? I do not have it in the Includes directory.

Maybe an even better question is, does this tag still reside in the frontend.php?

I found a different way to do this for now.

I am currently using the rhuk_milkyway theme. I went to the Theme manager, clicked on rhuk_milkyway. I selected the button "Edit HTML"

This allowed me to edit the templates/rhuk_milkyway/index.php file. I then removed the following lines from the <div id="footer_r">:

Code: Select all

<p id="syndicate">
						<jdoc:include type="modules" name="syndicate" />
					</p>
					<p id="power_by">
	 				 	<?php echo JText::_('Powered by') ?> <a href="http://www.joomla.org">Joomla!</a>.
						<?php echo JText::_('Valid') ?> <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer">XHTML</a> <?php echo JText::_('and') ?> <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/check/referer">CSS</a>.
					</p>

Another way to remove the powered by Joomla is this
- Login to your joomla frontend or control panel with your administrator details
- Click Extension
- On the drop down menu click Template Manager
- Click your default Template
- Click Edit HTML
- Scroll down and locate the "Powered By"
- Change the { href="http://www.joomla.org">Joomla!</a> } to { href="http://www.yourwebsitename.com">Your Website Name</a> }
- Delete the other paragraph that contains "Validator" and "CSS" {<?php echo JText::_('Valid') ?> <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer">XHTML</a> <?php echo JText::_('and') ?> <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/chec ... er">CSS</a>.}
- Save
-That is just it.
