What about Miro's Copyright notice?

Post by ilox » Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:56 pm

Trying to do the right thing by Mambo I left in the Copyright notice at the bottom of my pages but made sure it was separated from the Copyright notice for the content generated for the site owners.
All content including images is Copyright ©2005 ALRM Inc. unless otherwise stated.
About Mambo: Copyright 2000 - 2005 Miro International Pty Ltd. All rights reserved.
Mambo is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License.
Following on from the change on the MJJ site (thank for the heads up Lone Mamber) I have now included this text following the copyright notice...
This site has been developed using the open source software formerly called Mambo. This is a full-featured content management system that can be used for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Currently this software is being rebranded by the developer's team at OpenSource Matters.org.
My thoughts are.
  • How should we be showing the copyright notice to maintain the old way of showing copyright but still include the new message?
  • Do we still have to include the words about Miro?
  • Is there a neater way to put the copyrights as well as point out the new site and development?
  • Are we allowed to just leave out mention of Miro and his copyright from our pages? I wasn't thinking of making any changes to the code.
Cheers,  Ian

there never has been any requirement to display the (c) statement on your site. The only thing you had to do was to maintain the copyright statements in the code.

This has been well documented in the mamboserver.com page about the license

Yeh, but it was always there on so many sites so while things were sweet it was easier to leave it there.

Now I want to get rid of it but seeing as the nature of the site is leaning towards 'corporate' I would like the message that goes there to be in a similar vein which is why I was hoping somebody might suggest some better wording. I don't want the predominately lawer presence to get stuck into me about the wording on the site being distracting or inappropriate. It is their site, not mine, I just built it and maintain it ;)

I changed to copyright footer to read

Content Copyright 2005 Our Organization.
Hosted by HostProvider. Powered by New Mambo

The GPL does not require user visible copyright notices of the code.

That sounds like a good way to go. I would still like to show that it has moved from the previous domicile.

The following FAQ will explain: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,552.0.html

This probably applies to Mambo as well...
