Author login

Post by Kolin » Wed Oct 01, 2008 4:27 pm

Hi There,

I've just built a new site using joomla.
http://mybaluster.com/

We don't want any front end users, but we require authors to be able to log in and edit the content that's up there.
We need a publisher or admin to approve this content before its published to the live site.

Ideally we would like an author to be able to log in to /administrator/ and edit existing content without being able to edit menus, add content etc.

Is this possible with joomla? and if so, how would i go about setting it up?
If not is there any other way for me to achieve the same functionality?

Thanks,
Kolin

per default only managers and above can login into the backend

so your publishers and authors have to login into the frontend to be able to create and publish articles.
maybe you can provide them a direct link to login into the frontend:

index.php?option=com_user&view=login

Just gave this a quick try,

I can sucessfuly log in at http://mybaluster.com/?option=com_user&view=login and receive a message "You are currently logged in to the private area of this site." but there is no functionality to edit the site content.

any other ideas?

Please do not bump topics in the forums.

Authors can submit content from the front-end but they can only edit the content they themselves have submitted once published by a publisher or above.

Sorry about the bump,
Should i just repost next time?

So is there any solution to the problem im having?
Surely there is some way to give people access only to edit site content without being able to change anything else?

Create a menu on the frontend that is only visible to registered or special users.
In this menu create a link to a "Article Submission Layout"

There your Authors are able to create new articles.
Authors can only edit articles they have submitted

Sounds like im getting a bit closer.

Is there a user type that can edit existing articles but does not have access to any backend functions?

Editors or Publishers can do this

here is an overview:
