Re: installation of sample data after initial install
Are you installing Joomla on your local machine, or on a remote host?
Is it a Windows, Linux or Mac Operating System?
A full local machine install from scratch is a snap and rarely takes more than 15 minutes. Done properly, with a shell acount and an ftp account, the same can be said for installing Joomla on a remote host. My whole point is, a full install will be much faster than fiddling with manually installing the sample data, at least until the time you are more familiar with using the PHP and MySQL tools available, and have setup a few scripts to speed up the manual install process.
I have plenty of experience with Windows and Linux Installs, however none with a MAC. If you are doing this on an Apple machine, you need to say so, so people experienced with installing on an Apple server can make themselves available to help you.

Re: installation of sample data after initial install
Cool its on a remote server and its windows based. I know a tad about joomla and have worked on it on a local host, all i really need from the sample data is the top navigation and i cant seem to find any docs on how to create it... if i did find some i would create one myself. Maybe you can direct me in that direction instead of worrying about the sample data.
Thanks
Thanks

You'll be needing to make just a couple changes to get your top menu. First you have to create a new menu module. In the control panel go to
Extensions > Module Manager
Click on the checkbox next to MainMenu and choose Copy from the available options.
Now give your new menu a new name... click to edit the Copy of Main Menu Module.
give the module a new title, and choose a new Position to publish this module to...
On the right under the Module Parameters tabs make sure the menu style is set to
Legacy - Flat List
Finally apply and save your changes...
Preview your work.

Hello: Just installed shaper_helix_ii_quickstart_j25, same thing, forgot to hit "install sample data" and can't follow your instructions above. When I build another 'module' I can't even see an option tab to set the style? can you please help me.
