How to insert a video clip into my Joomla article

Post by flames8889 » Tue Sep 08, 2009 1:35 am

Hello,

I am new to Joomla. I bought a book to learn about creating sites with Joomla, and in the book there is a screenshot of an article and one of the buttons in the article is an insert media button (it looks like a film reel). However, on my Joomla control panel there is only an insert image button, but no insert video media button. I have Joomla version 1.5.14.

Does anyone know how to insert a video clip into an article without embedding (like [youtube])? I have several videos on my PC and I would like to upload those. I realize I have to use an FTP to get them into the folder, however, if there is no insert media button, how do I get the video into my articles?

Thanks in advance.

AllVideos plugin. I use it for a lot of Joomla sites. Works great!

If you need help configuring it, reply to this post.

Hi Tessak22. Thanks very much for the reply. Yes, I downloaded the AllVideos plug-in and installed it into my Cpanel. Then, I went into the plug-in manager and enabled it. However, when I create or attempt to modify an article, there is still no button or link to use it or to insert a video clip. I am pretty sure that I am just doing something wrong, but I do know that I installed and enabled it. The assistance is much appreciated!

No everything is correct, you just need to read the instructions on how to insert a video. Read this article to figure out what works best for you, http://www.joomlaworks.gr/content/view/35/41/.

I find that uploading the video to [youtube] is easiest because then you just add the following text/code into your article wherever you want the video to appear.

{[youtube]}1234567890{/[youtube]}

With 1234567890 being the ID of [youtube] video that is included in your [youtube] link, http://www.[youtube].com/watch?v=1234567890

Ooooh, now this makes sense. I have that article and was confused about the information being provided. So basically, I can upload my videos via FTP into a folder (i.e. create a video folder), but when I insert the video I must use an appropriate tag? Now it makes sense. Thanks so much for your help. I never would have figured this out, even if it really was that easy. =)

Hello again. I was able to figure out how to put a video clip into my articles. However, when I press the play button in the window, it does not play. After pressing the play button, the player will "think" for about 2 seconds and then nothing happens. I know that I uploaded the video correctly via FTP. In the Images/Stories folder I created a folder called Videos (images/stories/videos). This is what the AllVideos documentation had suggested, so I did what it had instructed.

Any ideas on why the video is not playing? Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention, if you'd like to see the site, to test the video, and see what I am referring to, go to www.raptureslullaby.com. When you press the video play button, nothing really happens.

Hello again. I uploaded two videos and made sure they were short (3 minutes each). They are both in .wmv format. I uploaded them using Filezilla and placed them in my images/stories/videos folder. I did exactly what the AllVideos documentation stated and used the {wmv}myvideo{/wmv} tag.

When the first clip did not work, I decided to upload the second video clip to ensure that the first clip was not the issue. I honestly do not know what else to do. Unfortunately, I am a beginner with Joomla and do not know enough to come up with alternative solutions.

Thanks for your help.

Oh yeah, I wanted to mention that when I first view the video clip, I am asked to install Microsoft Silverlight. I viewed this on two different machines and I was prompted to install Silverlight both times. Is this normal? Would that have anything to do with the issues (I suspect it does not)?

Yes that is normal if you do your own videos, did you install it?

Yes, I installed it on both machines. After the install, the video screen appears with the play button in the middle of the screen. However, when I click it nothing happens.

Very strange. Try the [youtube] option, it works great.

Lol, I think I will do that. I am at my wits end trying to figure that out. My only issue with the [youtube] option is that some of my videos are fairly large. I just have to go to [youtube] and find out what the max MB that I can upload at one time.

Thanks for all your help!
