How Do I turn off error messages

Postby ignatz2000 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:47 pm

Hi I would like to know how to turn off error messages (see attached picture) that display along with my content when i preview my site through my local host. I'm using wamp and Firefox

Things I've tried
changing the display errors in the global setting ( as i understand that only works for a live site)
I tried changing my settings in my php.ini

display_errors = Off
html_errors = Off
display_startup_errors = Off
log_errors = On

I may have done this wrong I dont know. Is there only one php.ini file?
Do I need to restart the computer or something after I change the php.ini file

I'm sorry im pretty new to joomla so if someone could explain the exact full path of where to do I would be greatful

Thanks!

You might need to uninstall the plug in in Admin, Extentions, Install/Unistall

I figured it out for anyone who has this problem

1. if you have WAMP go to the WAMPServer icon on the bottom right of you task bar and open the popup menu

2. scroll up to the PHP folder and open up the file php.ini

3. locate "display_errors = On" and change to ""display_errors = Off""

it is the last line and only the last line of this tesx in your php.ini file (see below)

; This directive controls whether or not and where PHP will output errors,
; notices and warnings too. Error output is very useful during development, but
; it could be very dangerous in production environments. Depending on the code
; which is triggering the error, sensitive information could potentially leak
; out of your application such as database usernames and passwords or worse.
; It's recommended that errors be logged on production servers rather than
; having the errors sent to STDOUT.
; Possible Values:
; Off = Do not display any errors
; stderr = Display errors to STDERR (affects only CGI/CLI binaries!)
; On or stdout = Display errors to STDOUT
; Default Value: On
; Development Value: On
; Production Value: Off
; http://php.net/display-errors
display_errors = Off

4. Note do note change "display_errors = On" anywhere else ( this is obvious to anyone who knows a tiny bit about this file but just sayin)

5 go back to the WAMPServer Icon open the menu the click "restart all services"

6. try your site again and see if the errors are gone.

I also have to give a big ups to NealZed at justanswer.com it cost $9 bucks but if you need help and follow up asap it is soooo worth it. Really helpful and nice pro

The error you are seeing might indicate you are running a Joomla version prior to 1.5.15 on a server running php 5.3. Simply upgrade to the current version should resolve your error if true.

ar eyou sure I have 1.5.15 on a server that runs php 5.3 im pretty sure that error means that the plugin i used was written in an earlier version of PHP and that a few of the old terms are no longer in use.

Fixed.
That, my friend, worked perfectly.
Thankyou so, so much.
