Amharic (Ethiopic) language pack???

I use 1.5.2 Amharic on joomla but i can't see my font all i see is ??

i just like to show a news on unicode fonts (Amharic)

We need a help and we have a problem about Joomla on Amharic

how can i make Amharic language pack for me do we have official Joomla! site for Amharic?.

Users like me we have a lot off problems

We can't find Ethiopic-Language Pack for admin or site for 1.5.2

2 issues apparently here:

1. Amharic joomla language pack
We have no registered Translation Team for Amharic.

2. Display Amharic on a Joomla site
Make sure, BEFORE you install Joomla, that the database is correctly collated UTF8
You may not need any specific font as Arial contains Amharic glyphs.

PS- DO NOT USE JOOMLA 1.5.2. It is vulnerable.
I suggest you install a brand new 1.5.15 Joomla on a utf8 collated database.

The first part of that thread concerns Joomla 1.0 x
As I told you, it is the second part concerning 1.5 you should read.

See here how to make a language pack (look at the part concerning 1.5).

In that second part is explained precisely WHERE are the en-GB files, a link to the Translation Manager component to help you make new language packs BASED on the existing English pack included in Joomla distribution.
Concerning your database, you have to use PhpMyAdmin or similar to inspect the collation of the database, the collation of the tables in the database AND the collation of the fields in the tables.

It is better to start from scratch.
1 Create your database.
2. With PhpMyAdmin, make sure the db is collated UTF8
3. Install Joomla 1.5.15
4. Install the Translation Manager

I have my websit online if i create a new database from scratch how about my webpage can i still move the site to the new one b/c i need my site to be online.

For that kind of job, it is advised to install on your PC a server as WAMPP, MAMP or else to work easily.

Digging up an old post here. Is there an official Amharic translation team? If so how can I join. If not I am willing to volunteer to spearhead that group for now until a more proficient speaker is found. I am alsmot finished with the language pack. Please direct me to the right point of contact.

I have installed the Translation Manager component. I can send you the language package I have worked on so far. I just realized it is bigger than I expected: Site , Administration, Installation.
We can divide it up and work on it or maybe infograf768 can give us some insight as to how to approach this. I see many words repeated. It would have been nice if there is a way to gather distinct words. Anyways awaiting your feedbacks.

Thank you very much for your dedication. Since no one helped me I can give up for a while. I did know how I can offer my assistant on Amharic language pack. But I am delightful to volunteer on translation I know Amharic perhaps I can work on a guiding basis since I'm not familiar with the all aspect of Joomla. But we can make it with the assistant infograf768 so whatever you want me to do more with translation, of course I have other commitments when my time permits I will follow your direction.

So I have applied for a new project once it is approved I will let you know and add you as a contributor. Do you have joomla installed in a dev environment? also do you have the Translation Manager installed?

Here is my dev environment.

VMWare Player
OS on VMWare Player: Ubuntu 9.10 + phpmyadmin + LAMP stack
Joomla: latest version installed on top of the Ubuntu install

What does your environment look like. I guess it does not matter. So I will be emailing you the language pack I have worked on so far and you can take a look at it. But let's wait also for some more direction from infograf768 before we waste precious time or go down the wrong track. Wow this is exciting! finally someone to work with on Amharic stuff! It has great potential for so many stuff! imagine a farmer in Ethiopia being able to see his coffe goods using a joomla website he has setup. no middle man, selling his stuff directly to consumers. a small clinic having access to health information in amharic in remote area! the possiblities are endless.

Jean-Marie there are a few projects already created for Amharic Translation. Should we use those or create our own? I had submitted one for our team but have not heard an answer.

We welcome any initiative to concretely make some.

I was looking Amharic language pack for joomla 1.5 . and I have read all your discussions may be you will come with a solution. the problem what I am suffering from is not different from others, I just develop my website in windows 7 with joomla 1.5, but when I test in different OS my amharic font display as box shape. and I don´t know what to do with this please need your help
