BigBlueButton Open Source Video Conference

Post by refreshedit » Thu Jun 24, 2010 12:42 pm

Is anyone developing a Joomla extension for BBB? http://www.bigbluebutton.org/
I think this is a beautiful open source solution for distance education. It is almost identical to DimDim but way better in that they are truly open source.

Drupal and Moodle already have integrations. Why not Joomla?

Any thoughts?

BBB is working on a PHP library to make it easier for PHP programs to integrate
see: http://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigblue ... mples/PHP/
View the bbb_api.php

Anyone up for the challenge?

I'm just curious, how would you connect a RTMP Flash application to PHP? What data would they share?

Probably not much. I'm not a code writer but I would like to see PnP integrations like:

1) Admin functionality to create multiple unique BBB sessions
2) Registration systems
3) Clean wrapping
4) Linking CB/JS users to login script (SSO)
5) Allow authors/admins/users to create their own BBB rooms

Oh ok. That sounds like mostly database interaction between the two applications. Thanks for the explanation :)

I'm also working on the integration of BBB .. currently on Moodle...

There exists a Moodle bridge by DualCode that needs modifications to work properly, but the approach could be very similar. Look at the code .. its free for download.

1. It auto-increments the room-id for each Meeting originating from your Joomla
2. Administration is really simple, just a password to enter the room for the end-user/moderator and the Login Salt (code) for the system-2-system logon
3. BBB runs on Flash completely so an i-frame container or the like to encapsulate BBB is already available in Joomly Extensions ... but is would be very difficult to fit all functionalities of BBB into the content div of your Joomla ..
4. I would rather suggest a popup BBB with your Joomla headers/logos and maybe even skinning in it would provide a better integration

I'm very interested in your progress ... I'm not a PhP coder either but an architect
Cheers

Hi Guys,

Would love to see some action being integrated between BBB and Joomla. Love Joomla and BBB looks like one of the smoother web conference apps. online these days. Its working with moodle (not a big fan) recently it integrated with another LMS system called efront which blend nicely.

REALLY hope to see BBB component for Joomla.

Jeff

I'm testing various live events integrations with social networking platforms (groups, forums, videohosting) in Joomla. I have tried a number of components so far and the closest to bbb's video/chat/file sharing functionality is Video Whisper, shoutbox chat and tokbox, but this still does not marry all off BBB's integrations like presentation handoff, voice conferencing, and screen share.

Take a look at http://www.refreshednet.com/ for an example of what I am testing.

An all-in-one solution would be the absolute BEST overall fix. I'd LOVE to integrate BBB into this system and create a real open source version of DIM-DIM. Add to this the possibility of creating multisite BBB conferences so users could start their own video events and we'd have a DimDim style killer app for Joomla!

Right now I guess I'llhave to stick to embedding BBB as a wrapper.
