Remove Contact title from contact form page

Postby zipster1967 » Tue May 24, 2011 5:51 am

I set up a contact page for displaying the default contact form but when I look at the page the Contact title appears even though none of the fields in it display.

I just want to display the contact form here. How do I get rid of this?

I'm having the same problem. I came to the forum searching for the same solution. I have no need for the "Contact" and this doesn't seem as polished as the previous Joomla version.

Also, both Contact and Contact Form are collapsed. I'm wondering how it can display opened by default.

I would also like to find out how to remove the title.

To have it opened by default, just go in to edit the menu item, under Contact Display Options change Display Format to 'plain'.

I found a solution to this thorn in my side when I encountered a similar problem with the H1 being displayed at the top of articles. You'd have thought that simply setting the 'Show Page Heading' to 'No' would be enough, but it appears Joomla 1.6 still has some bugs to iron out...

Anyway...

There's a surprisingly simple workaround. Go to the main Joomla install folder (not your template folder), then language>en-GB>en-GB.com_contact.ini (or the corresponding file for the language of your template).

Change:

COM_CONTACT_EMAIL_FORM="Contact Form" to COM_CONTACT_EMAIL_FORM=""

and

COM_CONTACT_DETAILS="Contact" to COM_CONTACT_DETAILS=""

Those pesky headings will now disappear from your contact form.

You can also modify the other text that appears on the contact form here, for example to modify the 'Send an email' phrase to something a little less abrupt...

Hope this helps some of you - I was pulling my hair out!!!

P.S. You can also get rid of the 'Article' problem I mentioned above by using the same technique on the related .ini file in the same folder - set JGLOBAL_ARTICLES="Articles" to JGLOBAL_ARTICLES=""

Thank you!

I spent a lot of time trying to remove this pesky thing, but no setting would work.

Definitely add this to the BUG list!

Ok seriously, this is something that should be fixed in joomla 1.7.3. Anyone else agree with my statement?

Thanks a lot mate, works like a charm.

And i agree, it should be fixed at the 1.7.4 version.

Unfortunately this does not work for me. I'm on Joomla 1.7.3 with the Dutch language pack installed. When I change the constants to null values the contact form is displaying the constant. E.g. COM_CONTACT_DETAILS

I have no idea why this isn't working for you. I've used this method on other language packs in Joomla 1.7.3, and there's no problem at all. Are you sure you're editing the correct file?

Yup. Made sure all forms of cache were disabled as well.

Anyway, I fixed it with a template override so the constants are intact as intended.

Copied components/com_contact/views/contact/tmpl/default.php to templates/mytemplate/html/com_contact/contact/default.php

Went to line 47;

Code: Select all

<?php if ($this->params->get('presentation_style')=='plain'):?>
                <?php  echo '<h3>'. JText::_('COM_CONTACT_DETAILS').'</h3>';  ?>
        <?php endif; ?>

Encapsulated it with some HTML remarks

Code: Select all

<!--    <?php if ($this->params->get('presentation_style')=='plain'):?>
                <?php  echo '<h3>'. JText::_('COM_CONTACT_DETAILS').'</h3>';  ?>
        <?php endif; ?> -->

Saved and pronto, no more contact details title.

Initially I didn't get the template override working and there is probably a very logical reason for it (I'm just not too familiar with Joomla). I wonder however why /tmpl/ is ommited in the target path for the override as it is not the most practical implementation.

It took me a little bit to figure that one out that you can't do a 1:1 tree copy below views. Ideally it would have been nicer if you could just have cloned the folder from its master (from the views level).

Anyway, problem sorted. :)

Does this still occur in joomla 2.5? I uninstalled the default contact form so I cannot see it.

Be warned, I've uninstalled the contacts component in joomla 1.7 which created a glitch when upgrading to joomla 2.5. Glad I had a backup site, reinstalled contacts component manually and then upgraded the backup. Then I swapped the sql data and was back to normal, but this did take a while. I was afraid I would have to remake my site. :eek: Thank goodness I didn't. From now on I plan on keeping the core components just to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen.

Hi all,

I'm currently working with J!2.5.1 and was about to go with the temp override solution when I realised there is an alternative CSS only solution that some may prefer.

Method:
Edit the menu item you have assigned to your contact form and go to "Page Display Options".
Now, in the "Page Heading" field type "Contact Form" (or alternative text of your choice). Now select "Yes" for "Show Page Heading".

You will now see the text you typed into the "Page Heading" field displayed as a h1 header element above the usual contact form page text.

Now add the following CSS to your template's custom.css file:

Code: Select all

/* Start CSS fix for contact form bug */
#mainContent .contact h1 {font-size: 1.25em;}
#mainContent .contact h3 {display: none}
/* End CSS fix for contact form bug */
(Note that the h1 font size rule is optional).

This works nicely on the "Single Contact" form for the site I am currently working with.
The CSS can obviously be removed (as can the page heading text) when this bug has been fixed.

Best
John

Is there any way that you can change this on an individual contact basis? For example: When I view Stewart's contact page can i make it say to "Email Stewart" but change to "Email Chris" when i go to Chris's contact page?

Right Now i just have it say "Send an Email" for all contact pages but It'd be way cool if I could make it more personable

Has anyone come across a simple solution, display.... yes or no? it looks silly having the two headings and I can't remove either easily.

I admit because of this problem I think I'll ditch the built in contact form and go with one of these:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tact-forms

So yes, this is a simple solution. 8)

Possibly.....I briefly looked at other extensions
Let me know if you solve it and the preferred component choice, I just want a basic contact form without two headings.
Is this a problem for everyone and if so are the joomla programmers addressing this issue, or is it something simple we are all missing?

Actually, I use a much easier way (at least in 2.5.4) if all you want is to make one of the titles disappear.

Edit the menu item you have assigned to your contact form and go to "Page Display Options".
In the "Page Heading" field simply type a space (as in tap the space bar).
Select "Yes" for "Show Page Heading".

I used Language Overrides instead (my first time)

This works fantastic :-)

formfranska took the words right out of my mouth. Language Manager-overrides is exactly what you use for this kind of thing. You can place an empty string, or customize the text to read however you wish.

I admit I have never used the over ride feature. Looks cool, how would it work in this case? Do I have to search for the contact string? I'm using Joomla 2.5.7 which I'm surprised this still is not fixed. :-\

Hi Josh,
Yes, you have to search for it.
Extensions > Language Manager > Overrides (tab)
Press NEW.
Then at the top right corner there's a box: "Search text you want to change"
Choose the radio button CONSTANT under the search field.
In the search field , enter "contact".
Now you get a list of all the constants that contain "contact" so keep on scrolling down (and press More results) until you find the one you're looking for (I think it might be COM_CONTACT_DEFAULT_PAGE_TITLE).
Now, just press it. It will be automatically filled for you in the top left box "Create a New Override"
In the "text field", delete or change it to something else.
Save!

Hope this helps :-)
