Featured Articles Ordering - Not Work inf Front Page

Hi. I've changed every parameter and configuration, but the ordering system in Featured Articles front page doesn't work (Joomla 1.6, JA Teline IV). I tried whit Menu Manager Options, Layout List, Category: No order, Article: Order, Global configuration, Menu Items optiones, etc....So, when I try to set an article like number 1, appear like number 4...The same whit the rest of the articles... Any idea ? Thank you.

okay so I took the following steps.

1. Go to your Joomla 1.6 administrator backend.
2. Click on ‘Content’, ‘Featured Articles’, look at the right side and click on the ‘Options’ button.
3. In the “Article Manager Options”, go to the tab “Blog/Featured Layouts”
4. Change Dropdown labeled “Category Order” = “No order” (Thanks to Nils for the update)
5. Change Dropdown labeled “Article Order” = “ordering”.
6. Save your article manager options.

This is to activate the ability to edit the numbers in the “Ordering” column to change the ordering of your articles, it does not allow you to make any changes yet. Don’t forget this important step:

7. Click on the column title ‘ Ordering’

This will actually make the text boxes editable and you can numerically position your articles as you want them to appear. If you only have 5 articles published and featured, Position ’1′ means it will be the first article at the top and position ’5′ will be the last or very bottom article on your Joomla 1.6 website.

8. Change ordering number in the “ordering” column.
9. Once done, you will see a little save icon beside the ‘Ordering’ title.
10. Click the little save button.

As instructed however I can change the order and yet nothing changes, the article I want to be first and at the top always goes in the middle even though the ordering number for it is 1. Is there a known bug on this or am I do something wrong?

I have found a solution that has worked for me, FINALLY! for Joomla 1.6.3:

1. Go to Content/Article Manager/Options
Choose Shared Options
Make Category Order "No Order"
Make Article Order "Ordering"
Click "Save and Close"

2. Go to Content/Featured Articles
Click on the column called Ordering, so that the white arrows over the blue circles appear, and you can change the ordering
Use the ARROWS to position your Featured Articles (I have found that changing the numbers does not work)
Click the Save Order Icon, which looks like an old disc

Hi All,
This is not working for me, it only orders by last article created first. On the other hand, I'm working on a multilingual site, and I'm not absolutemy sure which Options funtions has highest authority.
Any ideas appreciated.

I had the same problem but cured it by going to article manager/categories, changed the order of the categories and I could order my articles this way. Don't know if this helps

Hi chaps,

Just thought I'd throw my experience of this issue in too.

I had the exact same, problem, all the previous suggestions made no difference so I tried the following and it worked.

Oddly, the ordering now works perfectly without resorting to this method again!?!?

Basically I edited the database table jml_content_frontpage (jml was my chosen prefix, your's may be different) table via phpMyAdmin. I set the order to the order I wanted, refeshed the web page and it worked. I also spotted an orphaned article in there (set as the last order number, 5 of 5) so that may have been the inital cause. I have not removed this reference yet (in case I'm missing something) but ordering using the Joomla ordering column now works again.

I'll remove the orphaned article from the table as soon as I'm sure it is indeed dead. The contentid column conatained a number that I could not find in the jml_content table so I guess it is dead.

My 2 cents.

I have 4 articles next to each other in the content area and the ordering didn't work, and I don't have the option everyone talked about i'm using 1.7), but I figured what makes a difference is the order in which you publish articles, and the way it works is "vice versa", so the last article published will be the first in the line (I know how ridiculous it sounds but it is what it is).

Joomla's got some crazy bugs but still we love it

Hello all!

This was my solution in V2.5.

1.) In the menu manager>Layout options>Category Order=No Order
Set article order=Featured Article Manager Order

2.) Featured Articles>Options>Shared Options>Category Order=No Order
Set Article Order=Ordering

3.) From Featured articles>Set order of articles with arrows or input numbers. Click the little save disk icon.

Ok.. this was bugging me too.
Finally got a fix.......

'Unfeature' all of your Featured Articles.
Then 'Feature' them one by one ....... in the reverse order you want them displayed, ie the first one you want displayed, shoule be 'Featured' last, making it the most recent change.
