How to get Joomla Web Stats, Traffic, not finding it

Post by blackacidevil » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:30 pm

Hey there,

I've tried to research this through and through on google, so if I'm probably the biggest idiot or a real newbie (well no doubt i am)

But I have someone asking me for how much traffic their webpage has received monthly week over the course of the joomla site being online for over a year. Now I see that on the blogs of the webpage, it shows how many visitors read them, but what i need is just some simple raw data like you used to be able to collect with simple html.

Monthly visits, day visits, week visits. Im hoping that Joomla was keeping track without the need of orginally installing a plug in.

Now I've tried three plug ins and two of which cost money and still cant figure out how to get the stats. Webguru and contentsitestats i believe.

So I just want to know if theres 10 people visiting a day or 1000. But just want it to be easy and i want my cake and eat it too.

by default Joomla tracks "hits" to an article - showing how may hits each article gets - but this isn't segmented by month. You can see the hits for each article on the article's page. One warning: IF you copy the article, then it doesn't reset the new article's hits back to zero.

Otherwise, there are other non-joomla products that can read apache logs and give you statistics. See http://awstats.sourceforge.net/ for example. If you've kept all your old access logs then you might get it that way. You would need access to your logs.

With the default joomla, you can install Statcounter. Just only copy the statcounter code. It's easy to do, you can see the install guide here: http://statcounter.com/joomla/

But I think you will need to control much more about the traffic. If only the visitors you won't have the best option for your site. You should use Google analytics to get the full report about your traffic. And you can make a report for every months or years... If you want to see the result directly in admin panel, you can install j4age. That's also a good extension for free.

I also recommend Statcounter. Very fully featured.

But there is also a good chance that these statistics are provided by your webhost ... through your hosting control panel. Most offer very full featured statistical analysis (often using AWStats as mentioned earlier in this thread).
