additional Template Color

Post by slimrockwell » Thu Apr 26, 2012 5:14 pm

I am using the Beez_20 template with Joomla 2.5

I am currently using both template colors, personal & nature.

I want to set up additional template colors.

example. i want to use the template and css for nature, but i want to change the colors for some pages.

can I copy the the css and make a new file with new name?
then how do I add this as an option for template color in my backend?

thanks

(a) You could check whether the Page Class Suffix would be of help in your case. Review of the following documents would be of help in understanding the Page Class Suffix.
http://docs.joomla.org/Page_Class_Suffix
http://docs.joomla.org/Use_a_leading_sp ... parameters
http://docs.joomla.org/Using_the_Page_C ... plate_Code

(b) You could create custom color scheme
(i) In the directory \templates\beez_20\images, make a copy of the folder named nature. Let the new folder be named myscheme
(ii) In the directory \templates\beez_20\css, copy the file nature.css to the file named myscheme.css
(iii) In the directory \templates\beez_20\css, copy the file nature_rtl.css to the file named myscheme-rtl.css
(iv) Edit the file templateDetail.xml that is located in the directory templatesbeez_20 and change the following line of code as shown:

Before Edit:

Code: Select all

				<field name="templatecolor" type="list" default="nature"
					label="TPL_BEEZ2_FIELD_TEMPLATECOLOR_LABEL"
					description="TPL_BEEZ2_FIELD_TEMPLATECOLOR_DESC"
					filter="word"
				>

					<option value="nature">TPL_BEEZ2_OPTION_NATURE</option>
					<option value="personal">TPL_BEEZ2_OPTION_PERSONAL</option>

				</field>
After Edit:

Code: Select all

				<field name="templatecolor" type="list" default="nature"
					label="TPL_BEEZ2_FIELD_TEMPLATECOLOR_LABEL"
					description="TPL_BEEZ2_FIELD_TEMPLATECOLOR_DESC"
					filter="word"
				>

					<option value="nature">TPL_BEEZ2_OPTION_NATURE</option>
					<option value="personal">TPL_BEEZ2_OPTION_PERSONAL</option>
					<option value="myscheme">My Own scheme</option>

				</field>
(v) Make appropriate changes to the new css files to suit your need.

Note:
- Make a copy of files before editing them.
- With the latter approach, you will have your own customized color scheme. However, at a later date, if the file templateDetails.xml gets changed then this file may get overwritten. Keep a copy of your customized file in a different name as well as a back-up.
