External http-links on SSL-site are always https

Post by GVerheij » Wed Nov 07, 2012 10:38 am

Hi, I'm pretty experienced with Joomla and I manage a Joomla-SSL-site for several years now.

This seems a pretty strange error to me, so any help is very much appreciated.. This is the J257-site: http://www.centrumvoorurologie.nl, you can check the links in the module "Zo vindt u ons" in right column.

The problem is that external links on my SSL-site are always converted to https, when it should be http. Off course, when a visitor follows such a link he gets an error, because these sites are http, not https...

I have SSL enabled on my site: Force SSL in Global Config is set as "Entire site". It worked well for years. The site is upgraded from a J15-site.
I have restored a default .htaccess-file
I have tried "Use URL rewriting" on and off
I have tried removing the .htaccess completely
I have tried "SEF URL's" on and off
I have checked the content of the MySQL-record (I use JCE editor): This is the stored html:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.routewijzerjbz.nl/Default.aspx?rID=168" title="Routebeschrijving op RoutewijzerJBZ.nl" target="_blank">(route)</a>
But, whatever I try, my site converts the http-link to a https-link all the times... I upgrade the site each time a new version is released, can the recent upgrade to J2.5.7 cause this problem ?

I've setup a J257-site in a test-environment, also with a Joomlart-template, and then the error does not occur (http stays http). I do not use the Yireo SSL redirect-plugin (should I ?)

I feel I'm out of options.. Where can I look further to solve this?

Thanks for any response!

Gerard

I've found the cause of the error...

I have installed Akeeba Admin Tools and in the menu "Seo And Links Tools" I set the option "Convert all links to HTTPS when site is accessed over SSL" to YES...

That switch in Admin Tools was a solution for a problem with Phoca's Google Maps (parts of that extensions were not loaded with https).

Now my links do work, but the Google Map is not displayed anymore. That can be solved in another way I think...

I have the same problem, and have been looking for a fix for this for about 3 months. THANK YOU! this was the absolute last place I thought to look since I don't use the SEO stuff in admin tools... (I use RSSEO), so I didn't even consider that it was there.

I poured over my htaccess files, combed through joomla code looking for a bug... The next step for me was to set up a dev environment and step through the code to find the bug... YOU SAVED ME!!!!

I am eternally in your debt. so some night when you're working on something frustrating, let me know, and I'll order you a pizza!

regards,
Trauncher!
