Start with Protostar. Comes with core J3.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

Re: Whats the best free template for 3.1 ?
I would add the Gantry Framework http://demo.gantry-framework.org/
The ability to add a <templatename>-custom.css file eliminates the need to modify other.css files which may revert during an upgrade.
I don't think Gantry knows it but this feature opens up a world of possibility for a large segment of the market that wants a Joomla! web site, wants a few tweeks, and does not want to learn css.

T3 blank is my personal fav as you can learn how to customise it fairly well.
Comes from the http://t3-framework.org website and you can also find it somewhere on the Joomart website too.

Re: Whats the best free template for 3.1 ?
Hi, I am reading all your posts, I need help to select a theme for my Joomla 3.1 website. I like the protostar option because comes with the Joomla Core but I am evaluating a second option like a YOOtheme (like nano3).
I want to know if anybody has any experience with the nano3 theme?
¿Do Yootheme team keep their themes updated at the same time that Joomla has updates?? (compatibility issues). I am concerned about this. Imagine that Joomla Updates and the Theme don't. I can't be always changing the Theme and the look of my website...
Another question is, The nano3 plugins for Sliders, etc are secure? or I have more probabilities to be hacked?
Thanksss!!
