Error Unable to write entry

Post by Shaun Croft » Mon Sep 02, 2013 9:32 am

I have installed the Joomla version 3.1.5 onto my server. I am now trying to install components and keep getting the following error messages:

This is using the Upload Package File:

Error

Unable to write entry

Warning

JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file

This is using the Install from Direstory:

Warning

Copy failed

JInstaller: :Install: Failed to copy file /var/www/web5/html/tmp/com_easybookreloaded_v3-1/site/index.html to /var/www/web5/html/components/com_easybookreloaded/index.html

Message

Error installing component

This happens with all components I try to install and not just the easybook.

So this is what I did before the install:

I downloaded the jsn_teki_pro_unlimited_j3x_quickstart from the jsn site.
Unziped the file.
Opened the templates folder/jsn_teki_pro folder and then opened the templateDetails.xml and changed the following:

<!DOCTYPE install PUBLIC "-//Joomla! 2.5//DTD template 1.0//EN" "http://www.joomla.org/xml/dtd/2.5/template-install.dtd">
to
<!DOCTYPE install PUBLIC "-//Joomla! 3.0//DTD template 1.0//EN" "http://www.joomla.org/xml/dtd/3.0/template-install.dtd">

and

<extension version="2.5" type="template" client="site" method="upgrade">
to
<extension version="3.0" type="template" client="site" method="upgrade">

I then uploaded the folder contents via ftp onto my server and installed Joomla.
I then changed the permissions on all the folders to writeable but am still getting the errors.

Does anybody know what is wrong and can assist me in any way.

Oh yes I have installed it using Mysql and Mysqli

Many thanks

Shaun

I would try to install Joomla first and then upload the folder contents to install from folder...

What happens when you try to put a folder in /var/www/web5/html/components yourself with a ftp program or filemanager?
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)

Could you provide the Forum Post Assistent output mentioned in the header of this board?

Ok, a number of issues, see the red items:
- System TMP not writable
- Session path not writable
- Folder permissions

All these items should be corrected by your provider. Maybe they could set it up with FastCGI.
Hope this server is not available on the internet. Otherwise change folder permissions to 755 and 644 for files.

Your problem wil be resolved by giving PHP access to system TMP.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

sovainfo hi,

Thanks. I have changed the permissions on the folders and files.
Will contact my provider in the morning.
Will let you know of the outcome.

Hi, I had the same problem and solved it by extracting the files of the component and compressing them again as a zip file before uploading. It seems that Joomla has some problems with some compressed files formats.
