Basic visitor counter needed
I'm looking for an extension that will report the number of overall visitors and repeat visitors (not users) and I don't want to use Google or any third party, the stats must be logged from my website. Is this even possible and if so, is there anything out there that any of you have come across?
My understanding of programming is pretty limited but I'm guessing that if the extension logged IP addresses, this would work.
Thanks!
Tony

If you don't want to use Google the best alternative is Piwik or Open Web Analytics.
Share hosting usually comes with AWstats or another tracking tool. There might be some extension to hook it in the Joomla backend.

I don't want to use any third-party. I'd much prefer an extension but haven't had much luck. I didn't find any that offers new and returning visitors or overall and returning, which strikes me as odd but maybe I'm missing something.

No John, unfortunately my boats not floating. I need overall visitors and repeat visitors (not users), which this and all the other extensions don't provide.
Thanks though, I appreciate your willingness to help.

Did you search the web for free website counters? All you need is to get a HTML code and put it in your custom html module and position it anywhere on your page.
These won't tell you anything about repeat visitors but basic counters they are and they have been around since the time memorial.

Yes, I tried that but I really need to count repeat visitors. It seems like it would be pretty simple, I mean Google and others do it.

Try this:
http://006.free-counters.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... h=&height=
they have an option for "Unique Count - Only new visitors. Repeat requires a DB and to keep a record of IP addresses or some cookies.
