Category Changes to Another on Save in Front-End

Post by ulanden » Sat May 06, 2017 12:41 pm

Hello!
I have the same problem.
After updating to Joomla 3.7.0, I can not in Frontend edit "Category" on an article.

If I´m in Frontend edit an article with a special category such as "Banana", the category changes to "Aktuellt" when the article is saved.
In Backend there is no problem.
What is wrong?

I had the same problem with an Artisteer template and was told to try the Protostar template (efault template in Joomla). That showed me that there was an issue in the template from Artisteer.

I didn't use the Artisteer template maker to create more blog pages, so there was the problem. It was not Artisteer but my fault not to create more blog pages in template that I built.

Hello,

unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem. When user edit and save an article in the front-end, this article is automatically moved into "News" category, only administrator can change category of this article back to proper one. This starting to happen after upgrade to Joomla 3.7.

Please do you know solution?

Thank you.

Hi, I have almost the same issue with several templates (artisteer and template toaster) after the Joomla 3.7.0 or 3.7.1 (not sure about that) upgrade.
When a user logs in to the frontend, he has the ability to edit an article and there is a menu-item to add a new article.
Now when the user edits an article, this article is saved on the home-page although the original article was in another category.
When I disable the add article menu item, everything is fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found out that this issue has to do with the way i configured the menu option create new article. When I configure this menu-option to add an article to a certain category (Home in my case), then the article is added to the Home page athough it was an excisting article that was edited.

When i leave the category open there is no problem and the article i edit stays in the same category.

Thanks Benny for sharing your observation. I had the same issue with Joomla 3.7.2.
When the Create Article menu item is linked to a specific category, the category gets changed when saving, even though the frontend editor displays the right category and the editor form's value for the category corresponds to the right category's id.
Forcing the user to explicitly chose and check the category resolved the issue.

Do you remember the category IDs? I noticed that the intended category had ID 10. After saving, the article belonged to another category with ID 9. I could not test yet if there is a pattern e.g. ID becomes ID minus one.

I have the SAME exact issue. How do we report this as a BUG???

1. Have a 'create article' menu item for CATEGORY A
2. Edit an article that is NOT in category A
3. That article gets CHANGED into category A

This HAS GOT TO BE FIXED!!

Joomla 3.7.2

Have seen multiple clients with the same problem...

The only fix is if we change that other menu item, but that does not fix the issue.

Please test:
https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/16756
and mark your test successful or not in https://issues.joomla.org/tracker/joomla-cms/16756

The sooner the better so that there is a chance it can make it in the next release.
