Update to J3.8 produces error and cannot access administrator

Post by duplexmartin » Wed Sep 20, 2017 6:10 am

This morning I had updated Joomla 3.7.5 to 3.8.0 and whilst the site front end works fine, I encountered error in the administrator end which displays the following message:

Code: Select all

Call to undefined method JVersion refreshMediaVersion()
And I seem cannot access administration end after clicking login and entering login details. It shows 500 error code.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciate for resolution of this problem for other users who may have upgraded to 3.8

Did your update work all right otherwise?

In Joomla 3.8.0 the function refreshMediaVersion() is defined in the file libraries/src/Version.php, which may not have been copied or the file got corrupted in the process.

You can get the file from the installation zip file. Upload it to the server and see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks @toivo.

I tried uploading new Version.php file from installation zip file (although I saw the file was already present there), and attempted login in Administrator but still encountered 500 error aka white page.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

It could be a permissions issue in the folder or that particular file, which is strange, but the folder libraries/src was created during the update to 3.8.0 because it did not exist in Joomla 3.7.x.

Change the error reporting level in Global Configuration to 'Maximum' and see what gets reported.

Hi @toivo,

I changed to Max in error reporting and found this error message:
Fatal error: Cannot declare class JInput, because the name is already in use in /public_html/libraries/fof/input/jinput/input.php on line 39

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try to disable all your installed component and plugin on your site. Go to phpmyadmin -> table_extension -> disable it.

Then you may entered your backend back and try reenable your component and plugin one by one.

You may find the issue.

Hi, I have same problem after upgrading to 3.8.0 from 3.7.5

I have a copy of 3.7.5 website.

In 3.7.5 version on my website I disabled all components (plugins, modules, packages) that was'nt joomla native ones,( except FOF, F0F(Akeeba) and few templates) after update to 3.8.0, I got error message in admin :

0 Call to undefined method JVersion::refreshMediaVersion()

If go to System > System information in Joomla! Version field I see:

Joomla! 1.6.0 Stable [ Onward ] 10-Jan-2011 23:00 GMT

If I go to Extensions > Language(s) , I get error:

Undefined class constant 'MAJOR_VERSION'

I loged out and try to login again, and I get error :

Fatal error:
Cannot declare class JInput, because the name is already in use in /xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxxxxx/public_html/libraries/fof/input/jinput/input.php on line 39

I can't acess admin area, frontend works fine.

I found solution in other thread : viewtopic.php?f=710&t=954827

Erase the joomla libraries folders:
/cms
/joomla
/src
and replace them by the folders from the original 3.8 version.

Hi all
Remove if exists
- /libraries/cms/version/ folder
- /includes/version.php
- /libraries/version.php
- /libraries/joomla/version.php
