How do I move my flies to my new URL?

Post by Doctrout1 » Fri Jun 08, 2018 7:06 am

I have a website that I created several years ago using Joomla! 1.5 and I would greatly appreciate it if someone here could instruct me on how to move my files from my present URL to my new URL. FYI, the website in question is located at http://www.nc-flyfishing.com and is hosted by Rentavault.net but, I would like to move the files to http://www.harpercreekflyfishing.com which is hosted by GoDaddy.

The last maintenance version of Joomla 1.5, version 1.5.26, was released over 6 years ago, but you can still download an old version of Akeeba Backup that supports Joomla 1.5: https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/a ... 3-4-6.html

When you back the site, you get one .jpa file, combining both the file system and the database, The .jpa file needs to be uploaded to the new server and the site can be installed by using Akeeba's Kickstart utility: https://www.akeebabackup.com/products/a ... start.html
https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentat ... start.html

However, first you need to check that the new server still has PHP 5.3, which is recommended to run Joomla 1.5.

As you already saw, your version of Joomla is seriously out of date and therefore you need to go through special tricks to still move it and run on new hosting. The old versions and their extensions are also insecure. It would be good to start planning the migration to a supported version.

Thanks for the instructions. Because it took me several years of on and off work to build my website to its present point, I am trying to avoid rebuilding the site. Thus, is there a way for me to move my present files to a newer version of Joomla before moving them to my new URL?

Usually sites were migrated step by step from 1.5 to 1.6, 1.7 and then to 2.5, from where updating to 3.x was not such a big deal. Going from Joomla 1.5 to 3.x is a major migration, as explained in these tutorials:
