Unable to trash items in components after updating to 3.9.1

Post by M en J » Thu Dec 06, 2018 10:05 pm

Hi,

I am sorry to say that the update from 3.9.0 to 3.9.1 has caused three major issues for us on multiple websites.
The first issue is that the email address set in Global, Server, Mail from was changed to the email address of the super user.
The second issue is that the default language in Extensions, Language was reset to English.
The third issue is that at least several different installed components are not able to trash items anymore. In the backend and in the frontend.

The first two issues are quite easily resolved, but this really should not have happened in the first place.
The third issue can only be resolved by restoring the site from a backup. However, I have a few sites that only after 2 days we noticed the changes, and restoring is not an option anymore.

If this is not the correct place to put this posting in, then I apologize and please point me to the correct category.

Thanks

Please create two separate topics about the first two incidents in this forum, Migrating and Upgrading to Joomla 3.x and provide more information about a site where the incident occurred. The results from the Forum Post Assistant (FPA) would be a good start, but please follow the instructions from the link above.

Hi Toivo,

Can you clarify please? So you want me to create a new topic on issue 1, a new topic on issue 2, and for each you want me to run the FPA? Correct? I don't quite understand why it should be 2 separate topics, as they occurred after updating from 3.9.0 to 3.9.1, but if that still is what you want me to do, I will do that. Please keep in mind though that I have corrected the issues manually as described, so I am not sure if running the FPA will help?

What about issue 3 though?

Thanks!

That's the way things usually work in any technical forum. If these two issues are separate(and from the looks of things, they are separate) then it is better for all concerned to discuss these two matters separately. That's how all good internet-based, volunteer-run technical forums work.

We aren't sure why, either, but it could be pure coincidence. There may have been other events that occurred at around the same time—events that you may have been unaware of—but we can't say.

It's entirely your choice whether you use the FPA or not. It's also our choice to observe, at a distance, whether the matters you've brought to our attention have been completely "corrected".

What about it? ??? How, specifically, is "issue 3" related to issues 1 and 2? Which specific "installed components" are you referring to? Are these "installed components" part of the Joomla core CMS?

Thanks,

Several websites have got CjForum installed and Foollog. Only after the update from 3.9.0 to 3.9.1 we are not able to trash items in Foollog nor in CjForum.
I could confirm this by restoring one website to the 3.9.0, and then the trashing worked as expected.

Have you spoken with/written to the developers of CjForum and Foollog (I see that the former was recently updated a few days ago)?

How does this "issue" relate to the replacement of the email address used on the website?

How does the change of the default language for Extensions being changed to English relate to either of these matters? What were you expecting the default language for Extensions to be? I think this, again, is a separate topic for discussion.

Thanks Sozzled,

I think my co-webmaster contacted CjForum about it, haven't checked yet if there has been an answer. I also hope he would have contacted Foollog for the same.

The 3 issues are in so far related, that they all happened after the update from 3.9.0 to 3.9.1. Yes, they are separate issues, but they did not exist before the update, but appeared right after the update.

I have created 2 other topics as requested, but my point naming all of them in this topic, is that it was a result of the update. The language issue will only be noticed by sites that are using another default language then English. The site had the navigation set to English in stead of Dutch, and even system emails were in English in stead of Dutch.

There is nothing like a default language set for "Extensions" in Joomla.
There is simply a default Site language.
FYI, the Dutch nl-NL language pack for 3.9.1 had some errors.
Make sure you update it to its last version 3.9.1.2

Concerning the issue with Trash, look at https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/23200
where a component is using a database column called "state" instead of "published" and did not set using "setColumnAlias('published', 'state');" the column name to use in the "construct()" method.

Hi Jean-Marie,

Thank you for your contribution. The Dutch language pack has been updated.

CjForum acknowledged the issue with trash and pointed to the same github item and is working on a solution.
Foollog hasn't responded yet.

Well, the issue indeed did appear in our FoolLog component starting after the update to J! 3.9.1.

Last monday that was fixed (quick-fix) by using the a Column Alias in the Table class. More info for other developers can be found here: https://docs.joomla.org/Column_alias

Information about the J! 3.9.1 change is discussed here: https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/23200

We'll change the code for FoolLog in future releases to use the 'published' field-name instead of the 'state' field-name for the database table.

Our subscribed users can download the latest FoolLog version from our site or by using the backend Update Manager. :D

That is correct, although the update for Foollog did not appear in the backend. Also CjForum has released an update to fix the issue. So big thanks to both developers of CjForum and Foollog to correct this issue!
