Duplicating template

Post by the apprentice » Tue Dec 18, 2018 4:39 pm

I have 4 templates on my website, I would like to create one more by using the duplicate function, only when I do that you just can change the Style of the template but not the name, so that when I go to the FTP to amend the newly created template I just don't see it because it wasn't created at all I guess, just another style of the same template name. What is the use of that? How can I create a new template (that shows in the FTP) using the duplicate function? Thanks.

A template can be copied from within Joomla administration itself.

Review of the document https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:How_to_use ... te_Manager (especially the section Using the Template Manager Toolbar) would be of help.

In case if you have copied the template folder to another name, go to the screen "Extensions: Discover" and it would be listed there. Choose the template and click on the button Install. Review of the document https://docs.joomla.org/Help39:Extensio ... r_Discover would be of help.

You can set different parameters in the styles.

There are two template menu items: Templates->Styles and Templates->Templates
In the second one, you can copy it an edit the files in the template.

I can't find the screen "Extensions: Discover", and also the section "Using the Template Manager Toolbar" is different from my back-end, I'm on Joomla 3.9.2

I want to copy the template not style it differently.

Can you please list the steps taken to copy the template?

Attaching an image or two (full screenshots with annotations) to highlight the steps would be of helpful in clarifying things so that others can help you.

Extensions > Templates

in the Style I clicked on Duplicate.

I then click on the new template and change the style name. That's the only "duplicate" or "copy" function I can see. But in reality the new template folder in the admin is not created, I just find myself with another template style, what I want thought it's another template folder.

You are in the wrong menu.

You are in Extensions->Templates->Styles
Go to Extensions->Templates->Templates

The template copy tool will be at index.php?option=com_templates&view=templates
Then click the name of the template, on the new view you'll see the copy button
