I'm struggling to understand the "grey boxes" (plural) that you're referring to, sorry.

Hello Sally, welcome to the forum.

I think you should only disable the modules, or change the positions of those modules.

If I remember correctly, the grey boxes are generated by css. a class name called ‘well” is the culprit.

either remove the class name or alter the css for the class

Do you know how to “inspect” a web page to see what goes on “under the hood” - might be worth a google

Edit the file templates/protostar/css/template.css 2154 line
and change background-color from f5f5f5 to fff;

Code: Select all

.well {
	min-height: 20px;
	padding: 19px;
	margin-bottom: 20px;
	background-color: # f5f5f5;
	border: 1px solid #e3e3e3;
	-webkit-border-radius: 4px;
	-moz-border-radius: 4px;
	border-radius: 4px;
	-webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
	-moz-box-shadow: inset 0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
	box-shadow: inset 0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
}

Do not edit the file ../templates/protostar/css/template.css. There is a very simple reason why people should not edit this file. When you update Joomla to the next version, all your changes will be lost (because the file is replaced).

Better to create the file ../templates/protostar/css/user.css and add the CSS rule suggested by @geof. Really, @geof should know better than to recommend editing ../templates/protostar/css/template.css.

Better not edit CSS at all. Just change the module chrome for the module. See Module Style field in Advanced tab in module's options.

My answer it was a quickly answer, but as is generally known we must use an override file for all custom changes.
Sally please read this https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Adding_a_c ... _Protostar and paste the code below to your user.css file.

Code: Select all

.well a{
	color: #333;
	font-size: 1.15em;
	padding: 1px 3px;
}
.well a:hover{
	color: #000;
}

.well {
    min-height: 20px;
    padding: 19px;
    margin-bottom: 20px;
    background-color: #fff;
    border: 0px solid #fff;
    -webkit-border-radius: 4px;
    -moz-border-radius: 4px;
    border-radius: 4px;
    -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
    -moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
    box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
}

Thanx Geof and Sozzled I have created a user.css file and inserted the following ONLY
.well {
min-height: 20px;
padding: 19px;
margin-bottom: 20px;
background-color: #fff;
border: 1px solid #fff;
-webkit-border-radius: 4px;
-moz-border-radius: 4px;
border-radius: 4px;
-webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
-moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
box-shadow: inset 0 0px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);
}

Have I got to worry/insert a line of specificity code? if so what line.

This is the easiest and correct solution.
