Most "free" templates are not at all free

Post by wazoo22 » Thu May 16, 2019 7:08 am

I've now spent three days looking, and I've learned several ways to add or hide a charge to a "free" template.
This problem infects some of the best template makers, and seems very unethical to me. For example, I'd like to download and install "free" Purity III, but the site , in order to download anything, requires you to subscribe to a "service" costing about $50 a year.
Where can I go for low-cost, responsive templates? I'll pay, but nothing for those who advertise "free", and then charge you.

Surely the Joomlart free account enables access to it?

Not so's you'd notice. When I try to down it I get a window that reminds me that my subscriptions have lapsed (I didn't have any), and shows me two to chose from at around $50 each. I'll review their site, but this is very common in one form or another with templates that are advertised as "free". Gotta look sharp...

Thanks, Paula. You were right- the mistake was mine. I downloaded the four files, installed the T3 file and the extension manager successfully, but when I tried to install the template, I got the "warning: can't find XML setup file" . I don't find it in my downloaded stuff at all. What am I doing wrong?

Is the template perhaps wrapped in an extra zip file? try unzipping 1 level and see how it goes.
