SEO and Domain Change

Post by bluesardine » Fri May 17, 2019 5:14 pm

Hi Guys

OK hope this make sense and not sure best category to put in.

I had a domain name i'm a photographer but my medium has changed from
street photography, to landscape, to surfing, then wildlife and then onto wedding photography.

At first it moved up rankings for wedding photography cornwall from like page 20 to page 4, then dropped down to like page 6 and 7.

Ok then i had a change of thought, perhaps i had just confused search I put the
back to purely wildlife photography cornwall and already its back to page 1, still needs polishing but basics are there for now.

The wedding site content as been copied to a new domain name , both sites are now live, loads of 404 errors on peterhaken for the pages that were there for weddings, and when i search wedding key phrases peterhaken sites still comes up in results.

What am i best doing to fix links, or add perminant redirects or...rather confused what to do.

Should i add redirects via components-redirects or try and remove urls from google one by one.

Whats best way, i think Google thinks i have 2 sites with same content now and penalising

regards Pete

Hello, bluesardine
If you are gonna make 301 redirects do it with htaccess as redirect will be done on server level if you are not comfortable with that create 301 redirects with joomla redirect manager.

As per your comment well they are the same so yes it would be good idea to diversify your content a little bit, so google does not give you stick instead of carrot ;)
