Search filter doesnt work

Post by darb » Sun Aug 18, 2019 9:42 am

HI the search filte for JED have dissappear and now shows up..Normally if I want to check the latest updated extensions I had to go to this link https://extensions.joomla.org/browse/new/ and then make t w o filters "Last updated" to find what extensions that was last updated.

Now this doesnt work bcs the filters doesnt show up. Pls investigate and if possible also make a quick menu link to "Last updated" that been requested so many many times.

Thks Anibal.

Hi,

We have deprecated the legacy search and adopted a new instant search.

At this time, there are three main search features:

- Home Autocomplete Search
- Top-Menu-Bar Autocomplete Search
- The Advanced Search https://extensions.joomla.org/instant-search/

About your request, a "Last updated" report, I think there was that view in the past, but it was removed due to abuse, namely extensions developers submitting fake updates, just to appear in the list (and it is impossible to know if it is a real update or a fake update).

We can revisit the case and recheck if there is a way not to re-introduce the feature. Please, submit the request here: https://github.com/joomla/jed-issues/issues

Best Regards

Yes this is another problem but that should not control and decide over this good feature of Joomla JED that is good for the whole community bcs some people do bad things.

To prevent fake PR submitting fake updates I suggest/ideas to do the following complimentary solution & rules for adding/committing an extension to JED community.

1. Create a right column to the listing with extension "Update history" with running historically updates with headings for versions semantic numbers and what updates was done at that version number. So its traceable.

After a 3pds have saved his history update that can not be changed later and next update that follows will have a new version number and new updates that was done. So you see the history updates chronologically.

2. If a 3pd developer make mistake and have other versions, fakes, updates that are false etc he get a first warning for his action and a warning icon flag is set up for the JED extension "Issue with update history".

If a developer second time is doing fake updates he will be de listed for 3 months, a second time 6 months and then de listed for ever.

Hi,

Let's say a developer update the extension every day. There is even a request for a publishing API: https://github.com/joomla/jed-issues/issues/118. So, the developer could build and (automatically) publish a daily version to JED as a new version. If it is fake or not, it can't be decided since we can't infer the intention. The final result is that all developers publishing daily updates will appear in the report. This is an extreme case, but in the past, similar patterns were observed and that's why this information is no longer published (and a developer is free to update the entry without restrictions as long as it complies with ToS).

Solution
Create a Flooding system and/or rules (if/then/else) syntax so you cannot make an update more than once per week etc. Rule: Allowed one update per week or xx days with rules TOS update etc.
If it is fake or not, it can't be decided since we can't infer the intention.
If we let our IT system be as much automated as possible too we also can create guides and rules how things should work and with help of community users that help control this info after the updates is done and we also have warning system as I talked about before to prevent fake actions.

I don’t think that these 3pds would like to ruin their reputation and destroy their business if people can see and judge their action. And 3pds have to show what updates they have done and what version number that updates have historically and that’s for them a manual process. If 3pds can automate this in conjunction with their own update system for less maintenance its ok for me and good for all. Thats not the problem.

Anibal, what people in Joomla community can take this decision to remove "Latest updated" for JED?

I am very very surprised that this important search feature can just be taken away without any discussion transparency for us Joomla community users. I have uses it since start of JED and this was a core function of Mosets Tree and that working well even its more problem lately I guess.

I do understand this is a problem but isn’t it a larger problem for all of us Joomla users that use this frequently and cant not use this anymore? How did you discuss this tradeoff and where is this discussion?

Hi,

All discussions about features and development are made within the JED Team. Since the unpublishing of "Recently Updated" was done before my time, I don't know the details. I'm going to check with the team if they remember the problem.

The "Recently Updated" feature is still there. I've activated it a few seconds and it's showing the same query than the "New Extensions" query, so it probably requires some effort to be re-activated. In the meantime, I'm keeping it deactivated.

Hi,

The next Friday, the JED team has the monthly meeting and we'll discuss the "Updated Extensions" report. My idea is restoring the unpublished report that was available on the menu.

Hi Anibal,

this is your statement there:

https://github.com/joomla/jed-issues/is ... -526938631

"anibalsanchez commented 13 days ago

Recently Updated / New & Noteworthy reports: We have discussed the suggestion to restore revamped reports and concluded that it's a good opportunity to revisit the topic with reviewed queries. After the new ticket system implementation, we'll continue with the implementation of this point. If you want to collaborate with the team, feel free to contact us here.

You can check the Full meeting report here: JED Team Meeting - August 30th, 2019"

You have not restored the "Lastes updated" still and this could be used/done until you also do a new system that works.

Q: what is best?

1. To restore the "Last updated" for people that used this 10+ years and still use it or
2. Wait forever with this unclear statement "After the new ticket system implementation, we'll continue with the implementation of this point."?

Pls restore the "Last updated" now and later fix a better version of it!
