Main Menu Display Problems

Post by medwayboy2000 » Tue Sep 10, 2019 3:25 am

MenuBar trouble with new Joomla 3.9.1.1 download. On download the menu bar only shows a non-clickable 'Home'. I now create a new category > article > menu (Introduction).
The module 'Main Menu' shows Home & Introduction - the Main Menu only shows Home - the Breadcrumbs show nothing. I click Introduction in the module menu and it shows up in the Main Menu but NOT clickable, and it shows up the Breadcrumb Home > Introduction (Home clickable / Introduction not clickable).
I can find no way to install the menu items in the Main Menu although both seem to be correctly installed. They only appear individually and not clickable except in the Main Menu module where both appear and are clickable.

Dear Mr Wimpy,
Thanks yours prompt reply. I am using xampp local host with a clean download of Joomla 3.9 latest version so cannot send a URL. I hope the attached PrtSc will suffice to resolve my problem.

I am learning how to use Joomla and have another site https://4uswhodo.cloudaccess.host that I am playing on that does not have this problem.

Many thanks for your time.

Brian Hardaway.

You haven't added screenshots to your post.
Can you add them again?

Wim

I seem to have a problem. The attachment has hung for about 2 hours with the message "(114.36KiB) Not downloaded yet. " I will try again later.

It would be better to attach screenshots simply as image files to the post and then select to show them inline, rather than attach word processing documents, which add unnecessary steps for the readers.

Breadcrumbs:
It looks as if About Us is the default menu item.
Check in the Menu manager if Home is the default (yellow star).
If not, make Home default.

Navigation bar:
I'm not sure what you mean by navigation bar.
Do you mean the horizontal menu under the website name that you see in Protostar template examples?

If so, you have to create new menu/menu module. And set the module's position to position-1.

Wim

I feel a bit stupid to have to admit that I can insert images from MyPictures folder into Joomla documents and to paste them into Word documents, but I can find no way to add my images to this message.
Apart from that your advice has been quite helpful. I have changed my default to Home, and my modules are: position 1 - Home, and About Us. position 2 – Breadcrumbs. position 7 - Main Menu, and Log-in Form.
I still have the Horizontal NavBar problem . I click Home in the Main Menu and Home is showing by itself in position 1, but not clickable. I click About Us in the Main Menu and About Us is showing by itself in position 1, but not clickable.

Home is the page header and About Us is the article title.
They are not modules.
Also they are not linked. So clicking on them does nothing.

Wim

Save the screen shot for example as a .jpg file to your workstation.

Use the button 'Full Editor & Preview'.

Click the tab 'Attachments', then 'Add files' and attach the image to the message as a file.

Click the button 'Place inline' in the list of attachments and the image, not just its name, will be displayed in the post.
