Auto update in Joomla
Is there a way to get Joomla to auto update?
I am keen to avoid missing the big security updates.
I have been using CMSs that autoupdate for over a year now and so far no problems with those.

Re: Auto update in Joomla
There’s no “auto update” function in Joomla itself. However, some webhosts (e.g. Siteground) offer the functionality on their hosting packages.
Personally speaking, I don’t use the “auto update” feature as I’d rather be in control of when I update (I like to take a manual backup first).

I'm also reassured by a manual backup before updating. However do you know of any hosts that offer the double whammy of auto backup followed by autoupdate?JAVesey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 12:26 pmThere’s no “auto update” function in Joomla itself. Re: Auto update in Joomla
some hosts who offer joomla installed by fatastico or Softaculous may offer the auto update of core files BUT its not advisable to use them anyway.

Not personally. Siteground do a daily auto-backup but I prefer one taken immediately before the update.

Understood.
Out of curiosity, how many websites are you currently maintaining?

Re: Auto update in Joomla
For the sake of four websites, I wouldn't looking at automating the update process to keep four websites updated. What I would be doing, however, is to make sure that you receive notices about update available w.r.t. those four websites and act on those notices in fairly short order.
As most of us who have a dozen or even several dozen websites have found, the effort in choosing the time and manner of updating J! usually involves less than an hour. Four websites would take me about 15 minutes (including the time to keep a few notes, mark the emails as read, etc.).
I'm not going to entertain any J! vs something-else debate. Leave that for the armchair commentators.

Re: Auto update in Joomla
Less than that if you open several browser windows/tabs. First is backingup/updating while you are loading the next site etc.
