Helix ultimate framework - [After update overrides overwritten]

Post by gmarra83 » Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:58 pm

After updating to the new version of shaper_helixultimate (1.1.2 ) the files
in the templates/shaper_helixultimate/html/com_content (featured, blog etc.)
folder of the template have been overwritten.

I wonder what the template's html folder is for if the files it contains are also overwritten.
This is fine if it happens in this path plugins/system/helixultimate/html

From the official Joomla documentation (https://docs.joomla.org/How_to_override ... omla!_core) it seems to understand that the files contained in nometemplate / template / html are not override and therefore not affected by any updates.
I thank in advance all those who want to help me understand also given the spread that this framework is having in the joomla environment.

The purpose of that HTML folder is have all overrides of the pieces you need.
When i build a template i do overrides to get my final result.

But what happen if i override the override files?

You always should have a backup with the Template's files untouched and when installed , try to duplicate the template and work the overrides on the duplicate.

Since i don't do frameworks like Helix, Gantry and similar i do my overrides form the ground up.

Then joomla creates a copy with the date in the filename

So do you confirm the fact that updating the template framework will overwrite everything that is obvious? Over time I also used another YJSG Template Framework this worked differently it only updated the files contained in the plugins folder, perhaps this is where my doubt arises. Now in fact I have also tried to override the files contained in the html folder of the template. However, this operation duplicates for example the default.php of the com_content and not the default.php (folder article) override of the Helix template. Is this also normal?
Thank you

I have used other solid frameworks (YJSG framework) that work differently. In this case, for example, files are overwritten only in the plugins folder. Now it is not for me to say whether it is better or worse. Certainly what is indicated here I find it more tiring (https://www.joomshaper.com/documentatio ... e-template) and above all I would also miss the updates

Well my point is mainly to have the control that the template works and looks properly as proposed to the client. I tried to do with those frameworks and Simply i can't fit on them. I'm used to build like if it were raw HTML and CSS. I've been doing sites for more than 15 years, and in Joomla 9 of them. So far i have broaden the features of my templates but with those frameworks i feel that i cant deliver on time. The only thing worked for me is passing the pure HTML prototype and setting the PHP strings.
