Could we allow the OP to mark a forum topic as "unsolved"

Post by sozzled » Thu May 07, 2020 9:33 pm

I refer, in part, to a message I posted on the forum a couple of years ago (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=964596&p=3535941#p3535919). In that message, I wrote

1) I "marked" [a] topic as "solved" as an experiment ...

2) I think it's an excellent idea for the OP to be able to choose one answer as the solution. This is what I was referring to in my opening remarks in [that] thread:

... thank you for adding the new feature to the forum that allows the OP and forum moderators to quickly select and mark the "best post" as the solution to a question. This feature addresses an often-asked question from many forum users: "How do I mark my topic as solved?".
The two problems we're experiencing are mechanical matters relate to

(a) the physical location of the SOLVED button: one possibility is move the button elsewhere on the form thereby making it less likely for the OP (or those with forum moderator permission) to accidentally SOLVE a thread when they merely want to QUOTE from it.

(b) how to unsolve a topic that was incorrectly marked as solved: this isn't something the OP can do at present.
These two issues still remain, namely, the proximity of the "solved" button to the "quote" button and how the OP can "unsolve" a topic.

Has this matter been investigated with a possible solution in mind?

Hi

I have changed this, so the OP can mark a topic as unsolved.

Let's see how this works and see if this causes any issues.

Kind regards

Thanks. Even though it took eighteen months for a solution, it's good to see! I'll mark this topic as solved.

I've tested (and the OP can solve/unsolve) by clicking the tick.

@sozzled
You have marked the wrong post as solved. It is ooffick's post that should be marked 'solved' not your reply.

I have marked what I have marked, @Webdongle. The issue was not resolved until after I had tested it. OK?

I wish I had the ability to lock this topic.
