Joomla 3.5 to Joomla 3.6.5

Post by Joshua tiong » Mon Apr 12, 2021 9:59 am

Hello, I am having issues upgrading my Joomla 3.5 to Joomla 3.6.5

The error states:
Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/models/default.php on line 422

On Line 422 I found the statement:
JFile::write($tempdir . '/.htaccess', "order deny,allow\ndeny from all\nallow from none\n");

If you are interested, the entire section (from line 420 to 426) state:

{
JFolder::create($tempdir, 511);
JFile::write($tempdir . '/.htaccess', "order deny,allow\ndeny from all\nallow from none\n");
}

// If it exists and it is unwritable, try creating a writable admintools subdirectory.
if (!is_writable($tempdir))

The version of php is not compatible. Try 5.6. Update Joomla first, then php.

According to the previous post. Change the version, update and then test changing the version of php.

@Joshua tiong: Two questions:

1) How quickly do you want to solve your problems? What timeframe have you given yourself to resolve the situation? Please be specific; please do not say "as quickly as possible": a day, a week, a month ... how long?

2) What do you think that you should do to solve your problems?

???

1. sozzled, I would want to resolve this situation by the end of this week

2. I think I should import the previous cpanel version package into my php manager

Hello sozzle I see on the https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/how-d ... el.657443/, that there is a way to install php version 5.6 directly on the cpanel, however I am unsure regarding the steps needed to SSH access. I am wondering if I would need to connect with the server via Putty? This is my first time doing it and I would like to get all the steps correct.

I would not have a clue about how to install a particular version of PHP on a server. I know a little about using Wampserver (and updating Wampserver with various components) but I have never use Putty or SSH to do anything like what you're suggesting.
