Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I have recently intsalled my first joomla site 1.5, even created registered users. Last night while using the site switching bewteen users I am locked out of the Admin Panel in this admin loop - but also locked out of ordinary registered user editing as are the other registered users I have set up.
I can even register new users ! but they can't login even after activation!
Anyone with any other ideas - please help.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I have not had any luck on a solution. Anyone else had any luck?
It started working on it's own... but just broke again today. I hope I do not have to wait a couple days to get back in.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I am encountering the same situation. I tried all the suggested solution in other threads but with no success.
Is there no other option than starting all over again
Now it is ever more weired - when browsing the admin wab-page I get the following message
404 - An error has occurred

Me Too
I just get the login box up with no error message, I've tried every trick I can find, it doesn't tell me if anything is correct or incorrect, just a login box. Tried with ie7 and FF.
This had previously worked ok before I was able to install the old site data in there. Upon loading migration script, it stopped working.

Solved for me
It seems that when Joomla migrated to 1.5, a number of settings were copied over.
One of these was the template used for admin.
As explained in http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=275732,
I modified the templae in jos_templates_menu for menuid=0, client_id=1 to khepri
This allowed me to log on!

This is very annoying, I really need the get into the admin area... Don't admins look at these problems?

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Just want to add my voice to the growing number. This is so frustrating to not have a solution to something this fundamental. I did not install JFusion, so it's not related to that, I set the jos_plugins authentication so all the four authentication plugins are published, that didn't help. I did the file modifications suggested earlier in the thread, that didn't help. Still locked out of my own site....
If it makes any difference at all, so far I haven't had this issue with sites installed through Fantastico, only with manually installed and upgraded sites. This was a fresh Joomla 1.5 install, not a migration. I uploaded the files for 1.5.2 and this is when the problems really started.

Same problem here..!!
Suddenly login to the front-end is unusable. I had created this site with 1.5.1. I migrated via rsync the 1.5.1->1.5.2 files up to my server. Now login / registration problems.
Someone?

Great News! I think I figured it out!
Before I post the solution, I want to have a few of you test it first.
Please IM me on Skype: "ChiefGoFor" or on AIM: "ChiefGoFor".
This is a VERY non-evasive solution, so it should be easy to change.
Once we know how to fix it, the big question will be, how did it break.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I am discussing this issue with jimijon. The "fix" that I thought I had did not apply to his as his was not the same as mine was...
For everyone else, it is worth a shot...
Log into phpMyAdmin and navigate to the jos_plugins table.
Look for the "User - Joomla!".
Ensure that it is published as mine was not.
This did not work for jimijon as his was already published.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I found a possible solution posted on tiredrobot.com.
It has to do with the "Joomla Users" module being unpublished or deleted altogether.
I thought it wasn't a necessary module, so I deleted it thinking it wouldn't hurt. I wish it was grayed out like other core essential Joomla 1.5 modules, plugins and components.
In any case, according to the tiredrobot.com post, "...go to your database and on the plugins table and revert the situation (publishing again the Joomla User plugin) and you should be good to go."
Unfortunately, it's not so easy for me since I COMPLETELY DELETED the Joomla Users module.
Now I gotta install it manually, go to the mysql database and publish it from there.
Hope it works.

Do you have a link to that page that discusses it? That was the same as my solution except that mine was unpublished. After talking to two other J! users, their plugin was correct, but they still had issues.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Hey All
I had the same problem...front end login would loop back to home page. The backend...same problem with no error messages.
The reason for my problems was that I accidentally set my plugin "Joomla User" to disable...don't know why..but I did!
The way to fix this was to log into the database with your phpadmin and update the field "published" to "1" from "0" for the "Joomla User" plugin. You will see the "Joomla User" name in the field elements.
I hope this solves the problem for most of you!!
Take Care

P.S...I just noticed rossingtoncairn post....I can confirm he is correct!! :-)

Admin Loop, cannot login solved (for me at least)
This is my first post, but I'm following this thread a few days ago.
I was having this problem until now.
I was sure that the problem was in th BD, because a new shine installation of Joomla 5.2 on the same LAMP platform worked on a new BD, but fails when te configuration.php pointed to the old BD (the one that failed on admin and user login).
The post of ChiefGoFor give me the tip.
Looking at the jos_plugins table with mysql client, I confirmed that the "User - Joomla!" didn't exist. I looked at the Joomla directory and the plugins files was there. So I inserted a new row into the jos_plugins table with:
INSERT INTO jos_plugins VALUES (5,"User - Joomla!","joomla","user",0,0,1,0,0,0,'','autoregister=1');
And now I con login again.
Thanks a lot to ChiefGoFor.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Hi all,
I have checked the table jos_plugins and had already inserted "User - Joomla!" so I have no to insert it, but . . .
I cannot login. So inserting the plugin solves some of the cases, but not all.

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Hi everyone.
I had the same problem and seems that, at least in my case, was a cookie-session handling problem; so here's the fix that worked for me:
In the php.ini, set session.use_cookies = 1
And that's it. Hope it helps.
Best regards.
Victor

Thank you so much. I just spent all day trying to figure this out. I found your post, updated the sql and it works again. I was about to delete my entire site and start again from scratch - would have taken me at least a week to recover - thank you again.rossingtoncairn wrote:I found a possible solution posted on tiredrobot.com.

This is the content from that post by cris on Tired Robot dot comChiefGoFor wrote:Do you have a link to that page that discusses it? That was the same as my solution except that mine was unpublished. After talking to two other J! users, their plugin was correct, but they still had issues.
Posted here to save people hunting aroundIf someday you see a message like this and you have just installed or restored your Joomla installation, you might consider this solution.
Joomla uses a set of tables to config it’s core access control layer and the user login information. The tables are the jos_core_acl_aro (and extensions from it).The jos_core_acl_aro table is set, on the SQL script, with the engine MyISAM and it does not support a large key type, so the table is not created (or recreated) and your login information cannot be processed.
To fix this is simple, open you SQL script and change the engine to InnoDB. Run the script again and you issue should be solved.
Obs. All the users on the users table most have an entry (or a relation - ex. group) on the jos_core_acl tables.
Andy
Make sure you back up on a regular basis both the database and your Web server! Particularly before deleting anything!

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Add me to the list. I was working on my site this morning. Suddenly, this afternoon, I can't get in. Have tried resetting passwords in the Mysql db, but nothing works. Same symptoms too. Blank fields with the correct user name and password. An error message with the wrong username and passwords.
I am afraid to try some of the more technical solutions posted. Does anyone have a sure fix?

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
Erm. I'm no expert but just a thought I had about the OP. Perhaps it was something to do with naming? If the installation details were input slightly incorrectly then the backed up database would not be accessed properly, and you could have lost your login access like that. I can't think that any of Joomla's files actually changed, doesn't seem to be any reason for that.
Well, i realise this is somewhat fixed so ;p

With regard to the following:
INSERT INTO jos_plugins VALUES (5,"User - Joomla!","joomla","user",0,0,1,0,0,0,'','autoregister=1');
I am a little confused by the quote marks. After keying in 0,0,1,0,0,0 where does the rest of this go? '','autoregister=1');

Re: Admin Loop, cannot login.
I also have this issue, but only on the back end.
Checked plugins as suggested - all seems well.
Made no changes to our install. No additions, no removal of plugins, mods, etc. Never had JFusion. Just in the morning, working. In the afternoon - not. No explanation.
Thanks for suggestions in this thread, but none work for us - any other ideas.
We're on Joomla 1.5 with legacy mode enabled. I'm about to turn that off, but it will probably nuke Fireboard. Those are the only non-standard things we have. Fireboard with legacy mode on.
