Idea: The system of scheduled tasks!
I had such a problem at my work, when it was necessary to backup the site for the safety reason. So, I offer to create a system of scheduled tasks, such as optional backup of the site, or running a custom script, and etc. There should be some other helpful tasks to schedule. Then, the administrator can easily take care of everything, and Joomla will be in front of the CMS-s, who does not have such a system yet.
Best regards, Edvard Ananyan

The idea is of course interesting !
We will be able to give you more feedback if you post a more detailed description of your project.
For sure it will be a nice improvement to have automated backups. Do you have idea of other routines that could be scheduled ? It may be wise to contact administrators of huge Joomla! sites to see what are the most repetitive tasks and see if they can be automated.
Happy Easter btw !

Re: Idea: The system of scheduled tasks!
I had a hunt and there seems to be existing solutions out there:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/ (backup)
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/ (backup)
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/ (cron replacement)
Some other systems have cron hooks that you can use to integrate into the system cron to run tasks or other similar things via PHP (advantage being that it might run with a different php.ini with longer timeouts). Some, such as dotproject, hook it into a web page and the cron is simply downloading that web page every day.
